Rome is a family-friendly city with something for all ages. Gaze upon the Colosseum, make your own pizza at an authentic Roman-run cooking class or watch the little ones run up and down the iconic baroque Spanish Steps. Stay at these hotels that are all geared up for travelling in the Eternal City with children.

1. Singer Palace Hotel

Singer, the iconic sewing-machine maker founded in 1850s Massachusetts, opened its Roman HQ at this hotel in the 1930s. Architect Mario Loreti constructed the palazzo in a style typical for that period, with an impressive amount of marble and a bespoke staircase with curved metal balustrades. Besides interconnected family rooms with multiple bathrooms and a living space, the hotel offers fun family activities, such as golf-cart tours and cooking courses where you’ll master pasta, pizza or homemade gelato with an Italian chef.

2. Martis Palace

Families looking to spend a relaxed holiday in the Eternal City without having to splurge on two separate hotel rooms will be happy to discover Martis Palace’s family suites, which host up to four people, including two bathrooms and two separate bedrooms, ideal for teenagers craving a dash of independence. The hotel is pitched perfectly between Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, meaning Rome’s main attractions are all reachable on foot.

The biggest suites can host up to four and include balconies with city views and hammam-style showers. The hotel also includes a special concierge desk for booking group excursions.

While family trips make memories, they can also be, let’s face it, quite tiring. That’s why this hotel offers childcare services for parents looking for a bit of quality couples time. Family rooms include a living area with a pull-out sofa bed and a separate bedroom that lets parents relax at night, while the kids are sleeping. There are also connecting rooms if you need a bit more space.

This affordable and fuss-free base has a luxurious feel with wallet-friendly triple rooms and connecting apartments that make staying as a family a breeze. Some have views of Rome’s history-studded buildings from the window, and the hotel’s La Terrazza Bar, spread over candlelit terraces and courtyards, glimpses the Colosseum. Staff are welcoming in the way that Italians do so well and are great at recommending local tips for families in Rome, too.
