This industrial-style B&B is a recent project by Salvi & Associati, an award-winning architecture studio that transformed this 19th-century palace into five unique rooms and a suite. Each room is expertly decorated with designer furniture and the building’s original arched ceiling and exposed brick walls are nicely complemented by contemporary art from Italy’s most famous artists. The rooms are also soundproofed to ensure a good night’s sleep and breakfast is served every morning in the gallery-like bar.

Owner and host, Alessandra Bruti Liberati, had a burgeoning career in interior design before getting her hands on this project. The professional touch shows – original details, such as terracotta floors and doors from the 1800s, fuse effortlessly with Alessandra’s contemporary style and flair for fabrics. You’ll feel like you’re visiting the apartment of your stylish Roman friend, especially when Alessandra welcomes you personally and shares her favourite restaurant suggestions.

Previously the defensive tower of the Colonna family residence, this 13th-century folly now houses five guest rooms. Inside, it’s lavish, with vivid frescoed ceilings and brightly-hued abstract art by Rome native Natino Chirico – a darling of the Italian art world. Owners Manuela and Alvin are happy to advise on all things Rome related, from how to find fine food and wine to haggling with street vendors.

Luisa was born in Bologna and started painting more than three decades ago in Paris. She uses a distinctive fading effect on silks, organza and satin to create eye-catching pieces. She’ll tell you all about it over breakfast in her snug dining room or out on the sunny patio. The three restful rooms, naturally, feature the artist’s work printed on the walls as well as on silk and satin fabrics.

This 16th-century townhouse rests between the noble palaces of Campus Martius district. Host and owner, Simone Fabbrini, completely restored and redecorated it, leaving authentic details such as the exposed timber beams intact. Every morning, you’ll be served breakfast in the spacious, brightly-coloured kitchen and rooms have all been furnished in a colourful mix of vintage items and design furniture – some even have a cosy terrace.
