Travelling to Athens and don’t know what to pack? Culture Trip has you covered for every season of the year.

Winter

Winter in Athens feels like summer in Northern Europe. The orange trees are in full bloom, and it doesn’t ever really feel that cold. This means that while you’ll want a few warm pieces for the evenings, you might also find yourself wandering around in a shirt during the day. Layering is crucial. A warm jacket and simple staples should do the trick. Footwear-wise, watch out for the slippery pavements in the rain and opt for shoes with grip. Athenian style in winter is classic and understated. Whatever you do, don’t forget your sunglasses.

MaxMara Ombra coat, €715
House of Holland sweater, €280
Chloé high waisted jeans, €245
Dr Martens 1460 Boots, €170

Spring

The sun frequently shines during spring in Athens, and the city becomes verdant and bright. Layering remains essential, but you can embrace warmer colours and lighter fabrics. Pack optimistically, but don’t be naive – even Athens is prone to the odd April shower. It’s likely that you’ll still need some kind of jacket, but nothing too heavy. Towards May, temperatures will feel especially summery, and it’s likely you’ll be inclined to embrace a looser, breezier style in all. It might not yet be sandal weather, but bring shoes that let your feet breathe. Converse or other canvas shoes are a smart option.

Isa Arfen wrap dress, €880
Balenciaga denim jacket, €895
Converse x JW Anderson sneakers, €101

Summer

Summer in Athens is super hot and sweaty. You’ll want to wear as little as possible while spending all of your time hiding from the sun in the shade. Having a bag that gives you easy access to your water bottle is essential, and anything that isn’t cotton-based is out. Sleeveless tops and breezy dresses are your new staples. Make sure to bring a hat to protect your face and neck. If you want to escape the city and head to the beach, check out the great Greek swimwear designers on offer in Athens. There isn’t really a clubbing scene in the city, but you’ll definitely find yourself staying out late in the evenings. Opt for bright colours during the day and more minimal looks for the night.

Red Valentino top, €215
DVF crochet-knit shorts, €267
Castañer’s classic espadrilles, €92
Sophie Anderson bag, €287

Autumn

Autumn in Athens is still warm, and you’ll find yourself spending plenty of time outside. Much like navigating an Athenian spring, the key to successful packing is to think about layering. You will probably want to bring sandals, but also want some warmer shoes for the evenings – especially towards November. Otherwise, enjoy the chance to prolong your summer wardrobe and opt for a pastel colour scheme during the day. Bring along more statement pieces for the evening when colder temperatures will enable you to show off the versatility of your wardrobe.

Craig Green jacket
Acne trousers, €270
Eytys trainers, €200
