My Cocoon Hostel, the First Japanese-Inspired Capsule Hostel in Mykonos
The cosmopolitan island of Mykonos is one of the top destinations in Greece for summer parties and exuberant luxury. But why pay an extravagant amount of cash for a room you will barely spend time in? Meet My Cocoon, a Mykonian hostel with a Japanese-style capsule design.
A design hostel in Mykonos
Less than 300 meters away from the old harbor of Mykonos in Mykonos town is My Cocoon, a beautiful design hostel blending true Cycladic architecture with a futuristic, Japanese-inspired capsule design. It enjoys a prime location by the entrance of the waterfront of Mykonos town, where visitors can find a plethora of cafés, bars and restaurants. My Cocoon features on the American Express 22 Coolest New Hostels list, and offers upscale accommodation at affordable prices.
Opened in May 2017, My Cocoon was conceived by Omniview, an architecture and design studio in Athens, who were also responsible for the Void Club Mykonos and a futuristic residential building on Kleomenou Street in Kolonaki, Athens. The team pushed the envelope with the My Cocoon hostel. After studying the architecture of hostels around the world, they opted for a Japanese-style capsule hotel design. Space is divided by walls yet balanced with an open-plan floor model, providing a feeling of openness in spite of the fragmented spaces. Out of respect to the location, they went for a traditional Cycladic aesthetic to maintain a sense of lightness.
Conceived with comfort and socialization in mind
The hostel features communal dorm-style rooms with private bathrooms that can be booked for a group, as well as more traditional dormitories. Guests can socialize with fellow guests by the pool on the rooftop terrace or in the lounge area.
Decorated with a minimalist flair and with natural accents (woven rugs and comfy bamboo chairs), My Cocoon is a top accommodation choice in Mykonos for travelers who’d rather splurge on experiences than sleep. The hostel also provides discounts for guests at nearby businesses, including a car rental company.
