Amazing Mall Mural Unveiled In Berlin's Das Schloss
Shopping centres are usually designed to emit an appearance of luxuriousness and splendor, but Das Schloss in Berlin quite literally takes things to new heights. We’re talking about their newly revamped ceiling, which now displays a 1,200 square meter crystal clear video screen whose projections make this shopping experience like nothing we’ve seen before.
The ceiling, which has been nicknamed ‘Panorama Sky,’ was two years in the making and it took an additional two and a half months to install as the shopping mall itself is quite enormous. In fact, Das Schloss contains over 100 different shops and spans across 48,000 square meters, making it a shopper’s paradise in Berlin. The scenery, which usually contains prominent shades of blue, beautifully complements the indoor palms and glittering gold glow of the four story shopping area itself.
Naturally, the technological elements that go into making a spectacle like this are quite complex, let alone in a shopping complex in one of Germany’s biggest cities. Multiple, sophisticated, visual elements must work in conjunction to make the moving pictures look lifelike. The company, F1 GmBH is behind the designs used in operation with the help of VIOSO GmbH, another German visual software design company.
On a typical day, however, graceful orca whales and mermaids with aquamarine tails glide across the ceiling as jellyfish and a colorful choral reef emerge from the periphery. The inspiration for this scene comes from the 3D visual works of Werft 6. The Berlin shopping mall, Das Schloss, hired a diverse team to film footage of real underwater scenes in order to make the image projection look as realistic as possible.
While the ceiling usually features oceanic scenes, the imagery can be manipulated to fit various themes, something that sets this visual setup apart from others. During the European Cup, for instance, a giant football appeared amidst a blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds. The billowing flags of participating countries formed a perimeter around the vast rotunda. During Christmas, the ceiling will emit digital footage of falling snow, much like the Great Hall in Hogwarts. As the ceiling can be altered at anytime via the state of the art digital imaging system, shoppers are perpetually enticed and entertained.
No matter which scenes are playing out overhead, this ceiling, the largest of its kind in Europe, creates an immersive shopping experience and an unforgettable atmosphere, which was the intent of this ambitious project according to Das Schloss Centre manager, Oliver Mohr. After a couple of hours spent in this blissfully atmospheric shopping center, we feel the project is a success!
