Burgas is one of the two major Black Sea ports and a busy summer tourist destination where both sea lovers and culinary connoisseurs will find inspiration and reasons to come back. While in Burgas, don’t miss the fresh Black Sea fish and seafood accompanied with traditional Bulgarian dishes, like the summer’s favorite cold soup tarator. Here are the best venues to explore the Burgas food scene.

One of the best traditional-styled restaurants in Burgas is where you can taste local dishes while sitting in what would look like a 100-year-old Bulgarian house if it wasn’t touched. Tenyova Kashta (Tenyova’s House) has gathered in its menu dishes from all corners of Bulgaria that you would otherwise have to travel for days to find and taste them all. Try the pork and sour cabbage or any of the grilled meat options. In the summer, the spacious garden with a lot of flowers is the perfect place to find refuge from the heat.

Neptune

Neptune Restaurant is set in a 1948 building, right at the beach in Burgas where huge portions and affordable prices go hand in hand with an amazing view. The fish and seafood are prepared according to both traditional Bulgarian and international recipes. It’s not all about fish here, though, so take a look at the meat dishes and the fresh salads, and make a special note of the wines.

Incanto

Restaurant, Mediterranean, Bulgarian

Incanto is a restaurant tucked into a small street near the main Troika Square in the center of Burgas (with two more locations in other parts of Burgas). Here you can feast on fish, sushi, pizza, and keep it healthy with the big choice of salads. Meat lovers should not miss the ribs. If you come in summer, you can enjoy your food al fresco at the terrace or in the big garden.

The Brewery (Pivovarnata)

Bar, Bistro, Restaurant, Bulgarian

The Brewery (Pivovarnata in Bulgarian) is a special place in Burgas for craft beer lovers. Besides a restaurant, it’s also a brewery where they produce their own beer (unpasteurized and unfiltered) according to the German Beer Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot) from 1516. The food to accompany your pints is simple and natural. The meat is charcoal grilled, the vegetables are seasonal and you will know from every bite that the chef is including extra inspiration while preparing burgers.

Bulgarians, like many nations around the world, are crazy about pizza and Pizza Romance is one of the best places to try it in Burgas. The neat wooden interior and the refreshing air at the terrace make it perfect for both sunny and winter days. The prices are reasonable and its location is in the heart of Burgas, with three more restaurants of the chain in different parts of the city. Ask for the special promotions as often you can and get a free glass of wine when you order a dish from their seasonal menu.

Zlatna Kotva

Restaurant, Bulgarian, Seafood

Zlatna Kotva (translated as Golden Anchor) is the oldest restaurant in Burgas, established back in 1927. It’s located at the entrance of the Sea Garden of Burgas, close both to the city center and to the beach, and features two floors and a large summer garden. If you are a larger group, you may be seated in the Captain’s Hall, a specially-designed space for celebrations or business meetings. At this restaurant you can try traditional Bulgarian dishes and a wide array of fresh Black Sea fish. There’s a special corner for the children and live music in the evening.

Zlatna Ribka

Restaurant, Bulgarian, Mediterranean, Seafood

Zlatna Ribka (translated as the Golden Fish) is a family-style restaurant set among the lush greenery of the Sea Garden of Burgas, a stone’s throw away from the sea, whose breeze you can feel if you sit in the garden. This unpretentious restaurant specializes in fish and seafood dishes but you can also enjoy fresh salads and typical Bulgarian grilled meat, as well as a few pasta and pizza options.

Ti-Bar

Restaurant, Bar, Middle Eastern, Spanish, Italian, Mediterranean

Ti-Bar is a relaxed venue where you can sip your morning coffee or start the evening with a glass of wine (after you have managed to choose among the 100 varieties of wine) but what makes it even better is its creative Mediterranean cuisine. You will find culinary variations of Lebanese, Spanish, Italian and Moroccan dishes as well as a special seasonal menu. A highlight for whisky connoisseurs is the whisky menu with more than 80 types from all over the world.
