Night owls don’t miss out on the diverse cuisine that Vienna has to offer. Finding food after midnight in this city is easy if you know where to go.

ON-Market

Restaurant, Asian, Chinese, Fusion, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free

Late night eats don’t have to be consumed out in the open from polystyrene containers, this gourmet restaurant serves food until 1am. ON-Market’s food is South-Asian in style – sushi, stir fry and curry dishes and delicious cocktails are all on offer. Located centrally opposite the Naschmarkt, hence the name, it is a great place to end up after a day’s sightseeing in the city.

Bäckerei Gül

Bakery, Austrian, Pastries, Dessert

Boreks are the quintessential comfort food – buttery, flaky pockets of pastry, generously stuffed with a flavourful filling (spinach and cheese or potato are two popular choices). They make a wonderful midnight snack and this Turkish bakery, with several locations across Vienna, allows you to satisfy your craving for hard-core carbs even in the small hours, as it is open 24/7. There is also a lot on offer for nocturnal sweet-toothed guests, with fresh trays of Baklava and traditional Austrian baked goods such as apple strudel.

Bitzinger Würstelstand

Restaurant, Food Kiosk, Austrian, German, Fast Food, European

Like a mirage in the desert, the neon glow of a Würstelstand shining out in the darkness when you are hungry and navigating yourself home at night is a wonderful sight to behold. Once exclusively serving sizzling sausages, many have branched out in recent years, now offering a variety of cheap, quick eats – chips, burgers, and even on occasion Asian style noodles. These jack-of-all-trades style vans are slightly questionable – however, the traditional stands tend to deliver the goods. Try Bitzinger for a decent hot dog and a bottle of beer, and perhaps a drunken discussion with a local.

Berliner Döner

Cafe, Brasserie, Restaurant, Turkish

Vienna is fast becoming a champion of everyone’s favourite veggie chickpea snack. Berliner Doner, in the trendy 7th district, have perfected their recipe for falafel wraps and sandwiches – served on fresh bread with a colourful salad and a medley of sauces. Carnivores have the option of a kebab or burger and everyone can add a side serving of fries and beer.

Europa & Lager

Bar, Cafe, Contemporary, Austrian, Coffee, Tea , Beer, Wine, Cocktails

With a kitchen that’s open until 4am, this is the perfect spot for those who want to dine in the small hours but don’t want to eat standing on the street. The menu is uncomplicated and straight talking, with burgers, sandwiches and breakfast dishes served all day. If you want to stick around until the sun comes up, a generous cocktail menu awaits after your meal.
