The island of Florianópolis is home to over 42 beaches, which boast everything from great surf to serene waters and secluded sands. The most beautiful beaches on the island are in protected nature reserves and are the epitome of paradise in Brazil. Check out Floripa’s top five beaches here.

Lagoinha do Leste

Accessible only via trail or by boat, this beach is a gorgeous crescent of sand on the southern end of the island. Its waves often draw surfers from around the area, but there’s plenty of space for swimming or just soaking up the sun. Adventurous types won’t mind the hour long hike to get to the beach, but those looking for more of a relaxing time can take a boat. Because accessing the beach is a little more difficult, Lagoinha tends not to get too crowded. Be sure to bring snacks and drinks, as there are very few facilities on the beach.

Praia Moçambique

More than seven kilometers of sand make up this stunning beach on the eastern side of the island. With access via a single dirt road, this beach often goes unnoticed by tourists, and is perfect for a day of relaxing or surfing free from crowds. The beach doesn’t have any restaurants but during summer months and holidays there may be a few drink vendors selling coconut water and acai. Moçambique offers well preserved natural beauty thanks to its designation as part of a state park, and the mix of beautiful sands, forest and dunes all within the park make it a stunning beach to explore.

Ilha do Campeche

This island off Florianópolis is another beach that takes some time and effort getting to but is well worth the boat trip. Ilha do Campeche’s western facing beach has clear waters and calm waves. A single restaurant offers bar food, beer and caipirinhas for sale. Visitors to the island can also enjoy a guided hike to see the archaeological signs of native tribes that date back more than 4,000 years.

Praia Galheta

Located on the eastern side of the island about 15 kilometers from the city center, Praia Galheta is a beautiful beach only accessible by foot. A few trails lead to the beach but the easiest to find and follow starts at the north end of Praia Mole. The trail can often be muddy and is rocky at some spots, but in less than 15 minutes you’ll arrive at a secluded, nude-optional beach. During the summer months there are some drink stands on the beach, but it is best to bring everything for the day, including a surfboard as the swell here is well known.

Pântano do Sul

This beach is sought out by tourists and Florianópolis locals alike for its tranquility and natural beauty. Located in the south of the island, about 30 kilometers from the city center, Pântano do Sul is worth the drive for those looking for a more secluded spot. It’s also one of the most well known fishing beaches in Floripa, making it the perfect spot to enjoy fresh seafood and discover the island’s fishing culture.
