The southwestern corner of Sri Lanka is guarded proudly by the striking fort city of Galle. The fort itself – forming an almost perfect pentagon jutting out into the coast – is surrounded by golden sands and crystal clear waters, while inside lies a truly splendid collection of colonial-era architecture, coming from periods of Portuguese, Dutch and British rule.
