The beachside town of Vung Tau is not only known for its delicious seafood restaurants, but also the charming cafes. Start your day of coastal exploration with a leisurely breakfast and strong cup of coffee.

From upscale beachside cafes to those a little less fancy, located at busy street intersections, these six cafes are our favorite choices down in Vung Tau.

This is Vung Tau’s place to be on weekend nights, when the DJ cranks up the volume and turns this upscale lounge into a dancefloor. However, during the day the calm beach views, delicious coffee and chilled-out atmosphere make Gazebo stand out from other cafes in the area. It’s perfect for grabbing your morning cup while enjoying a nice, late breakfast.

Tommy's 3

Cafe, Vietnamese, American, European

Tommy’s 3 is run by a Vietnamese-Australian couple with a love of motorcycles. Despite being the base of Vung Tau’s Ulysses Motorcycle Club, this cafe attracts a diverse crowd of expats of all ages and interests. The venue is home to a cosy library and picturesque outdoor patio – perfect for some down time alone or with friends, while enjoying some great coffee. The team that run Tommy’s can also help arrange tours and give you some much needed travel tips.

Vung Tau Beach Club is a favourite gathering spot for windsurfers — rentals are available, as are surfing lessons with certified instructors. If surfing is not your thing, claim a beach cabana, sit back with a coffee (or even a cocktail), enjoy the views, snack on some finger food and take advantage of the good WiFi. They even have shisha, so you could spend a whole day here being lazy.

Bistro 9

Bistro 9 (also goes by Nine Cafe) has a breakfast menu to die for. Fresh bread (made in-house), the fluffiest of omelettes, delicious layered sandwiches, Vietnamese phin-filtered coffee, and even a sweet trolley with desserts are bound to leave you happy for the rest of the day. Try the bruschetta Morocco, which has received rave reviews.

OMG cafe

Cafe, Vietnamese, American, European

Big portions, delicious food, and affordable prices – what more could you want? Not only do you get a delicious array of Vietnamese dishes, but the menu also boasts well-crafted Western favorites for visitors feeling a little homesick. Enjoy your coffee while watching traffic pass by, as the restaurant rests at the T junction of two bustling neighborhood streets.

Despite having been around for a while, it is only now that New Century Cafe is making its mark – all thanks to new management. Run by an amiable (and informative) guy named Mike, this place provides quality meals and drinks that not only taste good, but are also presented well in big portions at reasonable prices. Fish and chips, kebabs, fresh juice, coffee and tea – you’ll find yourself wanting to sample everything on their menu.
