Foody

Foody is the Vietnamese equivalent of Yelp and Burpple, allowing users to share restaurant and street food recommendations with one another. In a city that can only be described as a giant open-air restaurant, this app comes in handy when making the difficult decision of where to dine next. Lucky for foreigners, the app even includes an English language option for easy navigation (though a big chunk of the reviews remain in Vietnamese).

Timo

Timo is the first digital bank in Vietnam, offering a fantastic alternative to traditional banking. To get an account, simply email their customer service and set up a meeting time at their Timo Hangout, where you will be welcomed with a complimentary cup of coffee. Setting up your account takes just 10 minutes. With the app you are able to do many things. You can pay your internet, water and electricity bills, top up your phone, and easily move money around without the app requiring you to add fields of information.

Timo app

While traditional banks have opened up over 200 branches within the city, Timo has only one. Everything is done over the phone. It certainly makes living here much easier.

Cốc Cốc Map

Cốc Cốc Map is a wonderful Vietnamese substitute to Google Maps, and it is even more user friendly. Grab

After acquiring the ride sharing app Uber in the Southeast Asian market, Grab has created a transport app monopoly. Using it is simple: all you have to do is plug in your current location, destination, and then choose what type of vehicle you’d like to pick you up. Users may be delighted to know that Grab Bikes are a thing in Vietnam, as they are able to navigate the traffic congested streets more easily. You can also opt to pay with cash, card or your virtual wallet that you top-up in advance, GrabPay.

Grab a taxi

Go Viet

The Grab app doesn’t necessarily have raving reviews from Vietnamese residents, mainly due to high prices and frequent cancellations. Taking advantage of this, local app Go Viet has sprung up and is becoming increasingly popular among the locals. It offers similar services to Grab for a much cheaper price, however only the motorbike option is available. You can also use Go Viet to deliver items.

KEEN TO EXPLORE THE WORLD?

Connect with like-minded people on our premium trips curated by local insiders and with care for the world

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
