Want to explore Vietnam with a group of like-minded culturally curious travellers? Book our specially curated 10-day Southern Thailand adventure, led by our local insider.

As the gateway to the famed Phi Phi Islands and Khao Phing Kan, also known as James Bond Island, Krabi is a popular destination for travellers craving some sun, sand and sea. While this laidback beach town is great for those in need of an idyllic holiday, it also has a buzzy nightlife scene that attracts partygoers from all over the world. At the centre of all the action is Ao Nang, a beach town that’s home to a plethora of bars, clubs and restaurants – we’ve rounded up the best for you.

1. Ao Nang Center Point

Bar, Thai

No visit to Krabi is complete without stopping by Ao Nang Center Point. This sprawling three-storey entertainment complex is packed to the rafters with bars and restaurants, serving everything from Thai and other southeast Asian cuisines to American, Mexican and Middle Eastern classics. If you’re planning a pub crawl, start at the popular Smile Bar before making your way to the raucous live music bars on the terrace. On the second and third storeys, you’ll find Krabi’s infamous go-go bars – probably not the best place to bring the grandparents!

3. Lucky868 Bar & Cafe

Cafe, Bar, Thai

While much of Ao Nang’s nightlife may be unsuitable for children, this family-friendly bar and restaurant sees plenty of patrons with young ones in tow. While Mum and Dad sip on international wines and classic cocktails, the kids can eat their way through hearty burgers, scrumptious pasta dishes as well as a wide selection of Thai favourites. There’s also a pool table for those who want to shoot a few balls around.

4. Amy’s Bar

Bar, Thai

Run by a vivacious owner and her posse, this lively nightspot is one of the best places on the Ao Nang strip to let your hair down and enjoy a good night out. Whether you fancy a fruity cocktail or prefer downing a local lager, the friendly bar staff are always on-hand to make sure your glass is never empty. There is also a constant rotation of sports channels on overhead screens for those who need to keep an eye on the score.

5. Coconut Bar

Bar, Thai

If you’re a diehard Bob Marley loyalist and you gravitate towards the colours red, green, gold and black, then this bar is a must-visit. Embracing the rasta way of life, this bar serves up reggae and strong mixes in spades. There are also performances every evening, from live bands to adrenaline-pumping fire shows. One thing’s for sure, at Coconut Bar: you don’t have to worry about a thing – “’cause every little thing is gonna be all right.”

6. Tribe Beach Bar

Bar, Thai

Tribe Beach Bar is a gathering place for lovers of trippy electronic dance music and heady cocktails. Set on the beach, the bar offers a relaxed vibe for you to dig your toes in the sand and enjoy a tropical concoction (or two, or three). If you’re in the mood for a rave, the bar transforms into a lightstick-soaked club in the evenings, where people party ‘til the early hours.

7. Boogie Bar

Bar, Thai

As its name implies, this popular watering hole is where people gather to dance the night away. A talented local band performs there nightly, playing a mix of Western covers and Thai classics. Whether you choose to rock it out in front of the stage or simply groove at your own seat, a night at Boogie’s is always guaranteed to be a fun one. Just remember, the bar doesn’t serve food, so be sure to grab a bite before heading here.

8. O’Malley’s Irish Pub

Bar, Beer

It’s almost a traveller’s cliche to hit up an Irish pub wherever you are in the world, but, if you’re craving Guinness on tap and a cosy, familial environment, O’Malley’s is it. With its closely packed tables and chairs, this is the best place to chill out and meet fellow travellers. Like most sports bars, you get a constant rotation of live sporting events being played out on big screens. Swing by on St Patrick’s Day, and you’ll get to enjoy green beers and ciders alongside other madcap festivities.
