Travelling is food for the soul, but it can lead to a few problems along the way. One such problem is a haircut. Nobody likes to cheat on their barber back home but the longer you’re on the road, the more inevitable it is that you’ll have to. Whilst finding a decent haircut in the smaller cities might prove a challenge, when it comes to Bangkok you’re in luck. There are plenty of cool barbershops to choose from – here’s the best of them.

Black Amber

Black Amber is conveniently located in trendy Thonglor, with a number of cool bars nearby, but with whiskey and craft beer available alongside your haircut, there’ll be no need to go elsewhere. Black Amber have perfected the art of a male hair cut with a strictly men onlypolicy to boot – there’s no surprise that its taken Bangkok by storm and established itself as one of the go-to barbershops already. Black Amber goes beyond a simple haircut – it’s an experience and a lifestyle choice. https://www.instagram.com/p/BYPrNgtjfgk/?hl=en&taken-by=blackamber_official

VTG. Black Market

Market, Shop

Doubling up as a second-hand store with flannel shirts, jeans and bicycles available, this is a staple of Bangkok’s bustling hipster scene and a fixture of hipster paradise Ekkamai. With just one barber available there may be a wait to be seen, but the time can be spent browsing through their vintage wares, with the chance of picking up a rare one-off piece that you won’t find anywhere else. A shop so cool that it should come with a warning – a trip to VTG. Black Market will seriously improve your fashion sense.

Blue Harbour

Beauty Salon, Shop

As the name suggests, there’s a nautical theme throughout this barbershop, yet thankfully each haircut is given the time and consideration that it deserves – so you won’t leave after 10 minutes feeling seasick. Designed by Thailand’s National Artist for Architecture, every detail has been designed with comfort and a retro feel in mind, from the daylight lightbulbs to the awesome traditional barber chairs. Boasting staff with more than 20 years of experience in the industry, you’re in safe hands when you board at Blue Harbour.

Three Brothers Barber Shop

Beauty Salon, Shop, Store

Some barbershops can talk the talk, with a beautifully designed bespoke interior, whereas others prefer just to walk the walk and deliver a solid haircut. The Three Brothers Barber Shop is definitely in the second camp. With an unpretentious, retro store, this family-run and operated business remains popular with men of all ages and is a great place to get a high-quality, rockabilly-inspired quiff or undercut at a great price. To channel your inner James Dean, head here for a haircut.

Truefitt & Hill

If it’s luxury that you want, then look no further than Truefitt & Hill. A Thai branch of a British barbershop – the oldest in the world, no less – it’s like a little slice of London in the heart of Bangkok. It’s also home to Sawas Saard, who has more than 50 years experience of barbering, and whose skilled hands have cut the hair of several Thai Prime Ministers and politicians. A pricey affair compared to most, the quality of the haircut and unrivalled luxurious experience that Truefitt & Hill offers more than helps to justify the price. https://www.instagram.com/p/7NGfG-lZWF/?hl=en&taken-by=truefittandhillthailand

Never Say Cutz

Beauty Salon, Shop

If you’re up for something more street than high-so, you might want to visit Never Say Cutz, owned by Thai rapper Way Thaitanium. As you might expect given the owner, hip-hop is key to the identity of this barbershop, with various hip-hop music and merch available to buy, and it’s also the top place in Bangkok to get graffiti-esque patterns shaved into your hair. Not up your street? Not to worry – they also provide great conventional haircuts and beard shape-ups for those lucky enough to grow them.

Tew's Barber Shop

Beauty Salon, Shop

Opened in Siam Square in 1994, this is a barbershop that’s stood the test of time due to its high-quality service and scores of loyal customers. It’s an intimate space, helping the customer feel more special than they would in a shopping-centre chop-and-go barbershop, and also offers a number of specialised services that might be hard to find elsewhere, such as eye and ear cleaning to go alongside your trim. A Bangkok institution that’s recently been renovated, it’s about time you headed over to see what all the fuss is about – you won’t be disappointed.
