So you know Taiwan is the home of pearl milk tea and that you can find some incredible street food on the streets of Taipei, but did you know that the land they call Formosa is also a world leader in computers and related hardware? The island is home to some of the world’s largest computer hardware manufacturers, which means that locals are spoiled for choice when it comes time to upgrade their system. But where is the best place to find the latest computer tech?

For everyone in Taipei, there’s only one answer to that question; Guanghua. This central neighborhood is where you’ll find the city’s best computer stores and where you can buy anything on the planet related to computers. Components, accessories, peripherals, software, hardware, you name it, it’s available in Guanghua.

There are two main malls where you’ll find scores of shops and repair stores. The smaller of the two is Guanghua Electronics Plaza which is located at the intersection of Bade Road and Xinsheng South Road. This plaza is chock-full of smaller stores selling everything under the sun. Being the older building, you’ll find that many of the stores here have been open for a very long time and it’s a great place to get some expert advice on building your PC or upgrading your system. You’ll even find some stores in the building that sell audio and visual equipment.

The other mall and definitely the more popular of the two is Guanghua Digital Plaza. It’s located on Civic Boulevard just a short two-minute walk from the older plaza. This new building comprises six floors of repair stores and suppliers. If Guanghua Electronics Plaza is a techie’s dream, then Digital Plaza is absolute paradise.

There are so many stores (each competing with the others on price) that you simply can’t fail to find a bargain for whatever it is you’re looking for on any given day. In fact, there’s so much to see and do that it’s a little overwhelming. A good tip is to start on the top floor and work your way down. Oddly enough, often the best deals are in the shops that are farthest from the front door. And of course, make sure you shop around for better deals. While two laptops of similar specs may cost the same in two different stores, one shop owner may be willing to offer a memory upgrade or throw a few peripherals into the deal.

Always something fun going on at Guanghua

The two plazas are great options for computer shopping, but even if all those stores aren’t enough, there are dozens of places dotted around the neighborhood. The section of Bade Road that lies in between the two plazas is also home to quite a few electronics and phone stores, so you can pick up some other gadgets while you’re in the area.

Bade Road is lined with computer stores

The neighborhood is easily accessed by MRT with Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT station a five-minute walk from both plazas. It’s also a pretty good place to find something to eat with the many restaurants of Huashan Creative Cultural Park just a short walk away.

So whether you’re a resident in Taipei or just there for a weekend, remember for all things computer related, there’s only one place to go; Guanghua.
