Tagaytay is where Filipinos go for a break from the heat of Manila. The city’s cool climate is down to its altitude – 660m (2,180ft) above sea level – and its lofty landscape is home to the active Taal Volcano and the lake it encases. There are resorts to suit even a tight budget, as well as stylish shipping container rooms and everything in between.

Those travelling in a group should consider the family rooms, equipped with bunk-style beds that can accommodate as many as six guests, while couples can choose a queen room. A restaurant and rooftop deck provide a bit of extra space.
