Khachapuri, a cheese pie, is one of the national dishes of Georgia, along with khinkali, meat dumplings. The dish is so popular that each region has its own variety. The basic principle is the same everywhere, but each area adds its own particular twist to it. So here’s the list of some of the best spots in which to try khachapuri in Tbilisi.

Sakhachapure #1

Sakhachapure #1 offers all the types of khachapuri for you to try in one place. The name translates into English as “Khachapuri Place” and the title is certainly justified. The price of their cheese pies is reasonable, and they are indeed quite tasty. Sakhachapure even has phklovani, which is khachapuri with beetroot and spinach, on its menu, usually difficult to find at other restaurants in Tbilisi. Besides khachapuri, the eatery offers salads, a bean pie called lobiani, soups, pizza, and desserts.

Amra

Amra is a restaurant offering Abkhazian cuisine. Therefore, you can try the regional version of khachapuri called achma. This version of the dish looks like a cheese lasagna. But if you’ve had your fill of all the khinkali and khachapuri while visiting Georgia, you can try other Abkhazian dishes, another rare find in the capital.

Dadiani

Dadiani focuses on Megrelian cuisine with a staple being the corn mill dishes elarji and ghomi, but the restaurant also has a tasty Megrelian khachapuri, which is usually topped with extra cheese called sulguni.

Retro

Retro is the Tbilisi branch of a Batumi restaurant famous for Adjarian khachapuri. Retro in Batumi was one of the pioneers of a new trend in Adjarian khachapuri called tsomgamotsili, meaning that the extra dough on the sides of this boat-shaped dish is taken out before serving, making it a bit lighter to eat.

Funicular restaurant

Another great place to try Adjarian khachapuri, which is called puri guliani, is on the ground floor of Funicular restaurant. Besides enjoying some of the most delicious khachapuri or pastries, you can appreciate the picturesque view over the city.

Tashre

If you want to try another type of khachapuri, head to Tashre and order lazuri. This one is similar to the Megrelian version, with extra cheese slices topped and melted on the already baked pie.
