Buenos Aires is known around the world for its incredible nightlife and for being a city that genuinely never sleeps, with late-night events going on every day of the week. We check out the best events in Buenos Aires from Monday to Sunday.

Monday: La Bomba del Tiempo

This weekly event is held every Monday night in the Konex Cultural Centre in the Abasto neighbourhood. Frequented by locals and tourists alike, it’s a great way to start your week. Everyone gathers in the outdoor area of this quirky venue to hear the famous drum show put on by the musicians that make up La Bomba del Tiempo. Each show is improvised, so you will never see the same performance twice. There are many other parties happening in the area afterwards, as the show ends early at around 10:30 or 11 pm. If you get hungry, head to one of the many Peruvian restaurants in the neighbourhood for some delicious food.

Tuesday: La Grande

La Grande is one of the best nights out in the city. Held in a multi-purpose venue in the hip neighbourhood of Chacarita, this elaborate jam session draws an eclectic crowd, as well as some of Argentina’s best musicians, such as Juana Molina, to the stage to share their musical stylings with the eager audience. A night for all ages, people flock to La Grande on Tuesdays to dance, mingle and have a good time during the week. If you’re feeling adventurous, put your name on the list at the start of the night for a chance to get on stage and jam with the band.

Wednesday: Open Blues Nights

Argentinians love live music and Open Blues Nights, held in the cute cultural centre El Universal on a quaint side street in Palermo, is a testament to this. Held weekly on Wednesdays, this blues night always has a diverse line-up of musicians. Drinks are reasonably priced and the vibe is relaxed. Whether you’re a music buff or just want to do something different, this is the Wednesday event for you.

Thursday: Club 69

Club 69 is emblematic of the Buenos Aires nightclub scene. It’s been going for years and each Thursday, it draws a huge crowd ready to indulge in a bit of debauchery and hedonism. Club 69 gets going late and ends late, so make sure you have the stamina to withstand the pace. Expect dancers, a themed performance with elaborate costumes and revelers aplenty.

Friday: Costanera Norte

You will be spoiled for choice for your Friday fix of Buenos Aires’ nightlife. Why not head to one of the super-clubs, such as Pacha or Terrazas de Este in the Costanera Norte neighbourhood near the Jorge Newbery International Airport? You can party the night away beside the Rio de la Plata and watch the sun come up from the deck of one of the clubs there.

Saturday: CAFF

If you’re looking to inject your vacation with a bit of Argentine tango, check out the alternative tango orchestra that plays at the Club Atlético Fernández Fierro. This event takes place every Wednesday and Saturday night and is something akin to a punk performance of tango—a far cry from the traditional milongas you might be imagining.

Sunday: Afromama

Lovers of hip hop and afrobeats should head to Palermo’s beloved dive bar Makena on Sunday nights. Get down with the friendly crowd, full of people who go to dance and shake their booty. Earlier in the night there is usually a performance of live music and afterwards a DJ takes over until the wee hours.
