Laundromat Café is a hangout for students, a pitstop for backpackers and a lifesaver location for parents with small kids. A crowd that you usually won’t see in the same place, right? Well, if you’re wondering what brings these people together, the answer lies in their laundry baskets.

Doing your laundry can be dreadful, and everyone has experienced the moment of trying to decide whether to meet up with friends for a Sunday brunch or stay at home and sort the laundry out. Luckily for Copenhageners, they can combine both by heading to Laundromat Café.

Laundromat Café opened in 2004 in Elmegade, one of the coolest streets in multicultural Nørrebro. The café’s stylish interior design combined with a fully equipped washery and a wide menu with sweet and savoury delights made Copenhagen’s first laundry café an instant hit.

There are three Laundromat Cafés in Copenhagen

The dominant colour at the café is red – red comfy couches, red stools, red lamps and, of course, red washing machines. The café has pop-art decor mixed with Scandinavian style, which creates a hygge atmosphere that invites visitors to relax by the window with a hot cup of tea.

As you’ve probably guessed, it didn’t take long before locals began to queue up to grab a table at Laundromat Café despite not having any laundry to do. Due to the Laundromat’s popularity, the owners decided to open two new cafés in the Danish capital with one in Østerbro and another in Frederiksberg.

The washing machines are available all day

The two new cafés have not only been decorated in the same playful style as the original, but they also offer the same menu with 40 different types of beer, homemade cakes and juicy burgers. Unlike the original café in Elmegade, the two latest locations offer a play area for children, giving parents another reason to stop by.

All three cafés are open every day from 9am to 9pm, while the laundry rooms are available the same hours from Monday to Friday.
