Ghanaian startups are on the radar in 2018 – the World Bank has predicted that growth in sub-Saharan Africa will pick up at 3.2% this year, pointing to Ghana as a country that is safe, stable, and has relatively low crime levels as compared to other parts of the region. Here’s our pick of ones to watch.

Farmerline

In Ghana, almost half of the population work in agriculture. What Farmerline does is to mold prosperous entrepreneurs out of smallholder farmers by helping them increase productivity with the right information, inputs and resources. With an annual population growth rate of 2.24% (2016) and an age dependency ratio of 72.61% of working-age population (2016), Ghana has a good-standing productive population. The King Baudouin African Development Prize-winning startup also delivers climate-smart solutions to farmers on their phones.

Kudobuzz

Kudobuzz is helping over 25,000 online merchants increase sales with SEO and online marketing features such as commenting on reviews, coupon code and a feature that allows customers to ask about products or services. Kudobuzz ensures that relationships between entrepreneurs and customers do not end after the first interaction but prolongs the business interactions.

Meqasa

Get the best rent deals and find your dream home in Ghana with Meqasa. The real estate marketplace secured a $500,000 investment from Frontier Digital Ventures; a global VC firm headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2015. It was founded in 2013 by three Ghanaian graduates from Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST); Kelvin Nyame, Rashad Seini and Kofi Amuasi.

Snoocode

Some 4 billion people live globally without an address – Snoocode‘s work is to “address the unaddressed”. Sesinam Dagadu, the founder, noticed the impact of Ghana‘s addressing system on the country’s geopolitical and social fronts while working for a local bank in 2007, and created Snoocode; a mobile app that uses a computer algorithm to generate a unique code for ambulance drivers, taxi operators, etc to find specific locations with GPS.

Omgdigital

With the fast growing mobile and internet market on the continent, African millennials look to Omgdigital as one of the fastest growing digital media companies around. With 90 million monthly page views and ranking as one of the most engaged platforms in Africa, Omgdigital applies sub-brands to provide fresh, genuine and original content pertinent to local African tastes, interests and culture.

Asoriba

A church management solutions project that streamlines seamless administration, effective data management and mobile interactions for church administrators and members, the Asoriba app enables detailed church information to be stored, as members can receive devotionals, sermons, event notices and send prayer requests while the church can receive tithes, offerings and pledges.

Nandimobile

Businesses can now benefit from the high mobile usage in Africa with intuitive technology structured by Nandimobile to connect customers to clients. Their products maximize personalized business experiences. The co-founders are Anne Amuzu, Michael Dakwa and Edward Tagoe.
