Children can be notoriously tricky to entertain so it always helps when a city has a good selection of kid-friendly activities on offer. Here are some ways to keep kids out of trouble in Accra and give the parents a break every now and then!

1. Avatarz Playground at Legon Botanical Gardens

Often described as a dynamic playground for kids, Avatarz features all kinds of installations such as rope climbing structures, suspension bridges, a jungle gym, swings, and slides. All this quality equipment is laid out in a lovely verdant setting.

2. La Palm Royal Beach Hotel

With multiple restaurants, swimming pools and a fully dedicated children’s area dubbed La Palm Kid’s Theme Park, this top-notch hotel offers something for the whole family. The kids section includes climbing frames, slides, a sand pit, painting areas and viewing platforms with telescopes. Head over for one of their weekend buffets and make a day of it at this great location adjacent to the beach.

3. Marvel's Mini Golf

Fun for all the entire family, Marvel’s combines a great mini golf course with a popular clubhouse that serves snacks. It also has a bar for the parents!

5. Kidz Cottage

In this great place for kids under 12, there is a standard play area equipped with all kinds of exhibits, toys, books and video games. There is even a popular ‘beauty parlour’ where they can pretend to be stylists and clients.

6. Happy Minds Ghana

This is a great little store that focuses on the development of children’s minds in a fun manner. There are many creative items here, such as sewing and embroidery kits, puzzles, and mentally stimulating games as well as the standard fare of books and dictionaries.

7. Children's Library

This place is great to get gifts or simply to expand your kid’s book selection to include a more international mix of stuff as this gem of a children’s library sells all kinds of Africa-based books for the little ones. This gives you an opportunity to find books that you would have trouble getting anywhere else.

8. A1 Raceway

Young racing fanatics will especially love this new, well-equipped racing track that is excellently run and managed by super friendly staff. Along with top-of-the-line Honda karts, there is also a lovely on-site cafe with delectable treats and a playground for kids who don’t want to partake in the racing.

9. Pippa's Health Club

Keep kids active with an array of classes at this beautiful and homey health club. This place offers ballet classes, a well-regarded Taekwondo programme, a dance academy, and a special Tumble Tots group for the 3-month to 3-year age group. There is an on-site spa as well as a coffee shop with some of the best healthy smoothies in the city.

On the top floor of the MaxMart shopping emporium is a colourful and engaging area for kids that features arts and craft activities as well as an large soft play area.
