Game of Thrones – Dubrovnik

It’s ultimate setjetting TV series. Game of Thrones is as responsible as any other film or television show in the boom of location travel. Northern Ireland has had its tourism industry transformed, as has Iceland, but nowhere has won over the watchers more than Dubrovnik. King’s Landing, one of the most important settings in the whole series, looks pretty much identical to the Croatian city. From the towering city walls to the iconic red terracotta tiles that give its skyline a pop of colour, there is now something transportive about the narrow streets and old medieval buildings of this beautiful city. Our eight day tour along the country’s Dalmatian Coast ends with a comprehensive tour of Dubrovnik, but also starts in Split, which itself is home to several GoT filming locations, including Diocletian’s Palace.

Seoul, South Korea

Squid Game – South Korea

It was the TV show of 2021. Squid Game’s cultural impact was phenomenal, so much so that it quickly became one of the most successful TV shows of all time, overcoming the tiny hurdle of subtitles to become a huge hit worldwide. It’s also the culmination of several years of growth for the Korean drama genre, which has grown increasingly popular overseas. While much of Squid Game is set inside a sterile, creepy TV set, the characters are all from Seoul, and the scenes depicting their lives before the game were all shot on location in the city. That means that a guided tour of the Korean capital, like the one you’ll have at the start of our 10-day trip in South Korea, will be full of familiar locations.

Moon Knight – Egypt

Of all the MCU shows to drop on Disney+ in recent years, Moon Knight has left the biggest impression in terms of its choice of location. The entire plot revolves around classic Egyptian mythology, history and even a bit of geography. Admittedly most of the show’s interiors are shot in Budapest – a favourite shooting location for Marvel generally, which you can also visit with Culture Trip – and even the desert sequences are filmed in Jordan, also a favourite playground for the industry. However, the heart of the show revolves around the magic of ancient Egypt, and the plot revolves massively around Cairo and the Great Pyramids of Giza, both of which you’ll visit at the start of our Ultimate Egypt trip. Having explored the iconic sights that Oscar Isaac and various otherworldly beings traverse in the north of Egypt, we’ll head south on a luxury Nile river cruise, stopping off at various ancient sites, including Luxor Temple, also known as the Temple of Khonsu – Khonsu being the mysterious Moon god with a connection to Isaac’s Steven.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
