Lima is famous for being the gastronomical capital of Peru, serving up some of the best eats that you’ll find anywhere in the country. As the city becomes more popular with tourists, healthier food options like vegan or vegetarian restaurants have sprouted up throughout the city, especially in the trendier districts of Miraflores and Barranco. Here’s a look at the best healthy restaurants in Lima, Peru.

Bircher-Benner

Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian, South American

Bircher-Benner was one of the very first vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Lima and has since expanded its business, opening another restaurant in Miraflores. They’ve become very popular with Peruvians because of their vegan takes on Peruvian classics like Lomo Saltado and ceviche. If you want to try Peruvian food, but can’t because of dietary restrictions, this restaurant is your place. You can experience the cuisine of Peru without veering off course.

Germinando Vida

Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian, South American

Germinando Vida is one of the only vegan restaurants in the Barranco area, located just outside the district’s main plaza. The location is impossible to beat and their food will keep you coming back for more, especially their banana smoothies paired with a veggie wrap. They also have one of the only veggie burgers (with fries) that you’ll find in Barranco.

El Vegetariano

Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian

Since opening in 2004, El Vegetariano continues to be one of Lima’s most popular vegan/vegetarian restaurants. They offer patrons fresh ingredients and an alternative to traditional Peruvian meat dishes. The staff goes out of their way to help explain dishes and give customers the power to personalize their meal to their dietary concerns. The best time to come is during their daily menu option, which is large and the most affordable.

Las Vecinas

Restaurant, Cafe, Vegetarian

Hidden down a side street, Las Vecinas is quietly one of Barranco’s coolest restaurants. With an open and modern floor plan, the restaurant invites you right in to sit down. The menu is always fresh and they serve up breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Las Vecinas is also a great place to grab a coffee and hangout with a book.

Raw Cafe

Located in the heart of Miraflores, Raw Cafe is a hit with both Peruvians and travelers, who claim it as one of the city’s best vegan restaurants. A one-stop-shop for coffee and healthy food, you can find patrons here soaking up the wifi or filling up the space for the lunch special. They have fresh salads, veggie burgers, and even vegan takes on Peruvian classics.
