This itinerary traverses the lot, with a series of unique outdoor experiences that are sure to live with you forever. There’s riding through Cotopaxi National Park on horseback, a magical hike around the ethereal Quilotoa crater lake and an scenic cycle ride along the famous Banos Waterfall Route. Real adrenaline junkies will have a go on the Swing at the End of the World, but we won’t judge you if you just stick to whitewater rafting down Jatunyacu River and nighttime jungle hiking in the Amazon.

Atlantic Azores
This lesser known archipelago is a little bit like a subtropical cousin of Iceland. Also an island far off in the Atlantic, also forged in the spitting flames of volcanoes, the Azores are Iceland if you swap the white for a bright green coat, rich and luscious. Our six-day trip around the main island, São Miguel, is just as intrepid too. You’ll cycle around and kayak across the surreal volcanic crater lakes of Sete Cidades, before watching out for whales on a magical marine safari. The ante is firmly upped in Ribeira dos Caldeirões, where you’ll abseil across a waterfall and go canyoning down slippery forest ravines. Natural hot springs are on hand to soothe the muscles, while a traditional cozido stew on our final day – cooked underground for hours with the power of geothermal heat – is on hand to soothe the soul.
