Many travellers visit this area looking to experience its adrenaline sports and outdoor activities, but as well as being a sports hub, Taupō is also a perfect place to relax, with a cafe culture that has grown exponentially in recent years.

Floating Rock Cafe

It’s hard to overlook this stunning cafe close to the Kuratau River. Nestled in the far south western corner of Lake Taupō, it’s located away from the centre of Taupō and offers picturesque views over the vineyard and the rolling hills surrounding Lake Taupō. Floating Rock serves excellent pizza cooked in a wood fired oven, which you can enjoy with a glass of wine in hand. It’s a great way to end a day of hiking.

The Cozy Corner

This excellent cafe has a focus on healthy and nutritious food, offering a huge breakfast and lunch menu. The Cozy Corner uses high-quality produce to create dishes that are low in saturated fats, sugar, salt and refined ingredients. As well as sticking to these principles, it also offers numerous gluten, wheat and dairy-free options, as well as vegan and vegetarian dishes, with plenty of naughty treats for you to indulge in. Alongside its food menu, it also brews excellent coffee from Ripe, a small Wellington-based roaster that has proved very popular with visitors. Whether you’re picking up a quick bite to eat or planning on a lazy morning or afternoon this is a great spot to check out.

Victoria’s Cafe Kitchen Bar

This sleek, modern cafe gets rave reviews and it’s easy to see why. Run by a husband and wife team, it focuses on using the best produce from local suppliers and has created a fantastic brunch and lunch menu that offers something for everyone. If you are in a rush and just need to grab a quick bite, do not fear, Victorias Cafe Kitchen Bar’s amazing food can be taken away too, with plenty of fresh treats ready to pick up from the cabinet.

Cafe Baku

A firm favourite for travellers passing through on their New Zealand road trip, it offers a large menu and plenty of freshly baked goods.
