When it comes to holidays, easy-to-reach, all-inclusive resorts can be just what the doctor ordered – but sometimes a traveller craves more adventurous and authentic accommodation to call their home away from home.

In July 2018, Hotels.com revealed that over the past two years they have seen an increase in reservations of off-grid getaways and a 60 percent spike in guests leaving rave reviews for remote hotels. Johan Svanstrom, president of the popular booking site, explains: “Thanks to our 25 million guest reviews, we’ve seen a huge uplift in desire to escape the city and head for the hills – in some cases, quite literally! Going ‘off grid’ seems to be a trend many guests are positively highlighting more and more in their reviews.”

As a result, the site has launched its hideaway hotels category. From the jungles of St Lucia to the deserts of Abu Dhabi, here are Hotels.com’s top 10 secret spots.
