In July 2018, revealed that over the past two years they have seen an increase in reservations of off-grid getaways and a 60 percent spike in guests leaving rave reviews for remote hotels. Johan Svanstrom, president of the popular booking site, explains: “Thanks to our 25 million guest reviews, we’ve seen a huge uplift in desire to escape the city and head for the hills – in some cases, quite literally! Going ‘off grid’ seems to be a trend many guests are positively highlighting more and more in their reviews.”

As a result, the site has launched its hideaway hotels category. From the jungles of St Lucia to the deserts of Abu Dhabi, here are’s top 10 secret spots.
