Nutritional smoothies, protein shakes, and refreshing juices can not only revitalize the body but when done right are a joy to drink. The following bars and cafés have blitzed and blended their way into the hearts of Melbournians, and for this, they deserve a spot on our list.

Happy Place

It turns out happiness is a real place and it’s located within the South Melbourne Market. Founded by nutritionist, yoga teacher and bestselling author Lola Berry, Happy Place is a smoothie and juice bar which re-invigorates the term holistic wellness. The menu offers 12 seasonal smoothies which can be easily tailored to suit your dietary requirements as well as tempting raw, vegan treats, wholesome soups and salads designed to detox.

Nutrition Bar

Bar, Restaurant, Healthy

Combating the tendency to choose unhealthy fast food is Nutrition Bar which offers fast-healthy options to time-poor Melbournians. The concept was devised by PT Eli Censor and Marianne Censor who now have three stores in Richmond, Chapel Street and St Kilda. The menu boasts green smoothies, protein shakes, pressed juices, and acai bowls packed with superfoods. There are also convenient grab-and-go meals and a guilt-free raw dessert selection which includes salted caramel no-cheese cheesecake, cacao brownies, cold drip whip, and even tiramisu.

Soul Press

Juice Bar, Healthy, Vegetarian

Filling the void of healthy food in Edithvale, nutritionist Dior Drummond opened Soul Press in 2014. Enter through the yellow door and into a world of food for the soul including superfood smoothies – all of which are vegan and dairy free – as well as kombucha and pressed juices. Soul Press also has 11 superfood bowls sprinkled with coconut chips, caramelised buckinis and choc goji among other tasty bits. You can even satisfy your sweet cravings with a guilt-free golden gaytime and cookie sandwiches. Soul Press is also located in Mornington and Brighton.

Blendco

Juice Bar, Healthy

In the summer of 2013, Morgan Cottee hit the road with his mates on a quest to serve smoothies at music festivals. These days life is less nomadic but the smoothies are better than ever. A humble frontage on Glenferrie Road conceals a shop that has turned blending into an art form with buckets including the Biggie Smalls, the Nutty Green and the Mango Baobab Bowl. Blendco is also known for their insane bliss balls – we recommend the forest fruit ball.

Green Cup

Cafe, Juice Bar, Healthy, Australian, Tea , Vegetarian

Whatever you do, don’t assume that Green Cup is just another cold-pressed juice shop. Owner Natalie Guest and her husband are dedicated smoothie makers who have put together a menu divided into green smoothies and superfood smoothies – all of which are 600ml. The basis of most blends include kale, spinach, chia and almond milk but you’ll also find an antioxidant blueberry smoothie, a gluten-free peanut butter smoothie and the refuelling Acai Bomb smoothie.
