Tigmi Trading

At Tigmi Trading, founder Danielle McEwan brings handcrafted luxury to Byron Bay. The outlet is part-homeware store, part-love letter to traditional artisans. The pieces, chosen by McEwan, are all one-offs, plucked from the area between the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and the Black Sea. When selecting her items, McEwan says she’s not looking for perfection; she’s on the hunt for something made with love that adds “beauty and soul to the home”. The items here don’t come cheap, but quality rarely does.

Onboard Store

Surfboards on Sale

Serious surfers should visit the Onboard Store to bag a custom board. Founded in Sydney in 1989, the surf brand now has stores in Mona Vale and three more in Bali. Staff are locals who love riding big rollers, so you can grill them for hints on where to find the best waves. If you do plan on hitting the water, Onboard stocks Salt and Stone sunscreen – vegan, cruelty-free, natural and organic.

Miss Brown Vintage

Levis Made & Crafted, SS18

Purveyor of vintage denim, upcycled classics and one-offs, Miss Brown is Byron’s best vintage store. The boho chic of the 1970s is its main offering, but you’ll also find ’80s Levi’s and the softest silk slips. If you’re very lucky, they’ll have some vintage bathing suits in stock – a chance to channel your inner Bond girl on the shores of Byron Bay.

Aromatic candles

Step inside this scented sanctuary for an all-encompassing sensory experience, and peruse the offering of 100 percent soy wax candles in beautiful reusable vessels. The blends are designed and handmade in Australia, with a focus on fair trade and cruelty-free materials. Labels list the essential oils in each, and the staff are friendly and very familiar with the product, so be sure to ask them for suggestions.

St Agni

This boutique first gathered interest for its cult footwear range of woven slides adored by trendsetters. Now it offers a complete range of luxurious pieces for women. Born in Byron Bay in 2014, the brand is now one of Australia’s most desired and its pieces can be found across the globe. But if you want to buy from the HQ, visit the Byron Bay store. Prices may be higher than you normally spend, but with that comes the assurance that the supply chain is compensated fairly.
