Although Sydney is home to some of the most enviable outdoor running routes in the world, there is also a wide range of weird and wonderful exercise options in studios across the city. Here is a list of some of the best places in Sydney to get fit.

12RND

Gym

The premise of 12RND is to get your heart pumping with 45-minute workouts. Each workout runs through a continuous circuit, so you can just turn up, jump in and start your workout. You will also be fitted with a heart monitor, so you can keep track of how you perform. The technique has become a favourite among professional athletes and Victoria Secret models, so you know it’s effective! The Bondi Junction studio also boasts incredible views of the Sydney Harbour and city skyline.

PEAK Altitude Training

Gym

If you’re a committed fitness freak, PEAK is the perfect place for you. There is a special room that fits eight people at a time that simulates an altitude of 3500-4500 metres. In this climate, the body has less oxygen, increasing heart rate and the intensity of the workout. The sessions last about 30 minutes and range from using treadmills, bikes and resistance machines.

Retrosweat

Gym

Paying homage to the ’80s with its fanatic commitment to aerobics, Retrosweat takes a step back in time, with high-energy aerobics classes pumping with old music from the likes of Michael Jackson, the Pointer Sisters, Prince and the Police. If you’re bored with the same old gym and everyone in their trendy workout gear, then head to one of Retrosweat’s three locations – and be sure to bring your leotard and leg warmers.

BodyMindLife

Located in arguably the most health-conscious neighbourhood in Sydney, BodyMindLife is a great place to immerse yourself in the Bondi culture. Start your day with a hot yoga session, followed by a 15-minute meditation class to achieve zen before heading to the beach – which is conveniently only a few blocks away. Don’t forget to grab a green juice from Cali Press on your way there.
