Perth is known for many things, including its pristine beaches, stunning landscape and top surf spots. But for a city that spends over a third of the year soaking up sunny days, the beach isn’t the only place to be. Take advantage of the sunshine with a trip to one of the city’s best rooftop bars.

1. Mechanics Institute

Bar, Australian, Snacks

The Mechanics Institute’s rustic decor matches the heritage-listed Northbridge buildings it overlooks. The small, friendly bar stocks a range of beers, which can be enjoyed al fresco on the roof deck. Downstairs, you’ll find Flipside, a burger restaurant that offers free delivery and dine-in options for the bar. Grab yourself a burger with a view!

2. Bob’s Bar

Bar, Australian, Snacks

Named after former Australian prime minister Bob Hawke, Bob’s Bar sits atop the multi-level Print Hall venue – a former newspaper house in the Central Business District. Sip a pint – à la Bob himself – and sample some of Western Australia’s finest craft beers. Try the classic local beer, Emu Export or, if you’re in the mood for a cocktail, go for the The Hugh Jackman – white and dark rum, orgeat and lychee – and expect it to pack a punch.

3. Hadiqa

Bar, Australian, Snacks

Hadiqa is a rooftop cocktail bar in the heart of the CBD. Named after the Arabic word for garden, it features an Instagram-worthy decor – think plants, tile floors and chic couches. Let the chef take you on a culinary tour of Moroccan, Mediterranean and Greek tasting boards. Plump for the vodka-based Moroccopolitan cocktail on a warm day.

4. Hello Rooftop Bar at The Rechabite

Bar, Australian, Snacks

Spanning three storeys, Rechabite Hall was once a vibrant dance hall in the CBD. Its rooftop continues the old-school vibe, with deckchairs and neon lights dotted throughout. When hunger calls, take the cage lift to the ground-level kitchen, Double Rainbow, for an imaginative menu that includes mouthwatering battered miso Snickers with toasted sesame and butter caramel.

5. The Rooftop at The Lucky Shag

Bar, Australian, Snacks

A stalwart pub, The Lucky Shag offers a decked riverfront terrace overlooking the majestic Swan River. Take in the city as you dine on some hearty pub classics and craft beers. Stay for the sunset and enjoy watching the pelicans, boats and fishermen on the waterfront.

6. Prince Lane

Bar, Australian, Snacks

Prince Lane is not your average CBD rooftop bar. With a tropical atmosphere, it’s decked out with enough greenery to make you question whether you are still in the city. Indulge in luxe cocktails such as the Prince Passion Colada against the backdrop of the Perth skyline, or feast on a pizza or burger. Featuring a karaoke suite, this rooftop bar will have you singing with joy, literally.

7. The National Hotel

Pub, Beer

Located in Fremantle’s West End, this iconic hotel and pub has a rooftop that could easily rival the rooftops of New York. Before welcoming live music seven nights a week, this stalwart pub was destroyed in a massive fire. Sympathetic to the heritage-listed area, the owners rebuilt it with original interiors and exteriors reinstalled to maintain its historic beginnings, complete with jarrah flooring. The selection of craft and premium beers can only be beaten by the rooftop’s impressive 360-degree views of Rottnest Island. With affordable accommodation and a family-friendly restaurant on the first floor, we’re not sure you’ll ever want to leave.

8. The Aviary

Bar, Restaurant, Beer, Fusion, Australian

As the name suggests, The Aviary sits perched atop a steel cage bar. The lively venue offers up a range of tasty bites, from burgers and pizza to modern twists on sandwiches, or ‘sangas’ as they’re known here. With views this good, it’s no surprise the rooftop is especially popular with the after-work crowd. Take a seat on the terrace for a killer cocktail – the espresso martini is a highlight – and bask in the ambience.

9. Rooftop at QT

Bar, Australian, Snacks

Touted as one of the best rooftops to party at, the Rooftop at QT is known for its great location and first-class cocktails. Situated in the Central Business District, this bar sits on the 18th floor of the QT Hotel. The incredible views are complemented by the West Aussie artist-designed turquoise glass doors. Enjoy snacks from the al fresco menu and a cocktail or two while taking in the city skyline.

10. The Terrace at Connections Nightclub

Nightclub, Gay Bar, LGBTQ Bar, Australian, Pub Grub

There is no better venue to dance at than Connections, a popular gay club that’s been open since 1975. Located where Perth City meets Northbridge, this dance club, with its feel-good party tunes, wild themed nights and disco balls, is the ultimate choice for a night out. Wander up to the Terrace when you need to unwind, and you’ll instantly feel refreshed. The laid-back atmosphere and city vistas provide a welcome refuge from the boisterous party downstairs.
