Making a beeline to Madison? We don’t blame you. Wisconsin’s capital has it all: perfectly lovely little museums and galleries, stimulating outdoor activities, and plenty of local pubs with craft beer and live music. If you haven’t been, read on for the best places to stay in Madison – and you’ll realize why the home of the Badgers is a great home away from home for you.

1. Hotel Indigo Madison Downtown, an IHG Hotel

Hotel Indigo is sink-into relaxing, with its comfortable and creatively designed suites. This old Mautz Paint Company building is now adorned with colorful murals to feast your eyes upon. Designers like it here: there’s a workspace in your suite, so you can sit and doodle to your heart’s content until the muse pays you a visit. Alternatively, recline in the truly spa-like bathroom. Should you prefer to seek out others’ creations, there are plenty of theaters and buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright once you step beyond the hotel entrance.

2. Graduate Madison

Graduate Madison majors in Wisconsin hospitality. The all-guests-are-very-welcome mantra extends to furry family pets. The hotel’s shuttle service will take you to wherever in town you want to be. If a little light exercise is your goal, you can bag yourself one of their complimentary bikes instead. The rooftop Camp Trippalindee restaurant is a corker, decorated in a summer camp style, with canoes and wall-mounted fishing paraphernalia, and its name is a nod to the 80s film Back to School. You’ll be in high spirits up here, guaranteed.

3. The Madison Concourse Hotel and Governor's Club

The indoor pool and fitness center are amenities enjoyed by all guests at the Madison Concourse Hotel. And, if you want to take the fine bed linens home, they are for sale: ask for the Dayton Street Comfort Collection. If you’re looking for a top-of-the-line experience, the Governor’s Club rooms are your best bet. These executive-level suites offer access to the private Governor’s Club lounge, where you’ll be able to sip top-shelf cocktails and tuck into fine dining while taking in the breathtaking view of the State Capitol. Pro-tip: head to the secluded library, where you can cozy up to the fireplace, with wine, a good book, and plenty of privacy.

From its wow-inducing location on Lake Mendota to its waterfront salon and spa, offering body treatments, fitness classes, and personal training. It’s a tough call deciding which room to book – all categories are to lust after. We’d steer you towards the lakefront suites for their panoramic views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Then again, the art-deco-inspired modern rooms are seductive propositions, with kitchens and oversized bathrooms among the extended-stay amenities.
