Don’t let the beer-and-bikes reputation fool you, Milwaukee is one of the most ethnically diverse in the whole of the United States – even if people tend to congregate in their own little enclaves. Once the city that brewed more beer than anywhere else in the world, Milwaukee loves to party. Festival season in the hometown of Liberace kicks off in June with PrideFest, while Summerfest attracts hundreds of thousands of music lovers. This is also the season when you’ll want the best hotels with pools in Milwaukee as summers are hot and sunny and everyone is outside – bookable on Culture Trip.

A Milwaukee landmark, this hotel has been in business since 1893. Everything here screams grandeur – from the huge Victorian art collection and the chandeliers hanging from ornately painted ceilings to the fact that your pet pooch gets a gift basket. Step out of the elevator on the 23rd floor for afternoon tea followed by a dip in the indoor pool-with-a-view, plus a cocktail or a local craft beer. On Friday and Saturday nights, there’s live music – all without having to step back into the elevator again.

The indoor pool at this hotel overlooks the Milwaukee River as it flows past just steps away. After your swim, rinse off under the rainfall showerhead in your room and treat hair and skin to the complimentary Bliss toiletries. There’s a sunny outdoor space where you can hang out with your pup after a walk along the river for a romantic stroll at sunset.

There are Milwaukee hotels with pools and there is this one – which has a whole water park. Springs Water Park features slides, a lazy river, kids’ areas with water-based games, fountains and an indoor/outdoor whirlpool. If you just want to do some laps, the hotel also features an indoor pool. Rent a bike and take your dog – the hotel doesn’t allow other kinds of pets – for a run along the Lake Country Recreation Trail that passes along the back of the hotel. Downtown Milwaukee is about a 20-minute drive away along the I-94.

This pet-friendly hotel is conveniently located only blocks away from the Milwaukee and Menomonee Rivers. If you’d rather walk your dog closer to home, there’s a little park right across the street where Milwaukee locals promenade with their pups. Afterward, soak up the chance to relax in the heated indoor pool. You can grab a continental breakfast and Starbucks on-site and good dining options – fine dining at the Capital Grill and steaks at Mo’s – are only a short walk away. There are bus stops at either end of the block, too.

Close to General Mitchell International Airport and some 15-minute drive south of downtown Milwaukee, this hotel with cool gray-and-cream rooms makes for a great stopover. No matter what time your flight is, the hotel has a free airport shuttle to pick you up or drop you off – there’s also a bus stop a short walk away from buses going downtown. To soak away the travel stress, you can relax in the whirlpool or do some laps in the indoor swimming pool. There’s a free hot breakfast here – but if you get hungry later on, the Branded Steer steakhouse is just across the street.

Only about a 15-minute drive from downtown, you’re close to the action without being in the heart of it. This hotel is in an area surrounded by research and healthcare facilities but you won’t find yourself surrounded by a sea of concrete. Instead, a pleasant path starts just behind the hotel and leads through wooded areas and past ponds to a park where you can play ball. Afterward, relax in the pool or hot tub before grabbing something to eat at the Habanero’s Mexican Kitchen across the street – before retreating to your spacious, carpeted room with a padded headboard and comfy bed.

Of the hotels with pools in Milwaukee, there aren’t many that also cater to your love of golfing quite like this one. The Brookfield Hills Golf Course is across the street and Westmoor Country Club is a little over half a mile to the north. After a relaxing dip in the indoor pool, head to the on-site bar for a local brew accompanied by beer cheese dip and pretzels – the wood used in the bar comes from the owner’s own properties. The on-site restaurant serves typical Wisconsin fare and it’s about a 20-minute drive to downtown.

Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Northwest Conference Center, for motorway access

Unlike so many indoor hotel pools in cavernous, featureless spaces, this one has plants all around to make it feel less institutional. The on-site restaurant serves hearty fare with a Wisconsin twist – leave some space for chocolate beer cake with a pretzel crust for dessert. When the weather is good, they’ll open up the outdoor patio too. The hotel – located just off the I-41 – is about a 20-minute drive from downtown and because there aren’t many other dining or shopping options nearby, a car comes recommended.
