So, you want to go to a real rodeo? You ain’t done nothing until you’ve been two-stepping. Sure, dancing is fun, but two-stepping is a whole new kind of good time. Thankfully, everything is bigger and better in Texas, including the fun. It’s time to brush up on those two-stepping skills, polish them boots, and don the Western shirt – there’s a herd of honky-tonks to round up. Discover the best country and Western dance halls in Houston.

Amateurs, kick off those boots. Midnight Rodeo in Katy is where the real cowboys and cowgirls go. Echoes of stomping feet can be heard on the wooden dance floor that weaves around the center bar. This is the prime position to watch the guys and gals twirl about in their country finery. Horses and brawls aside, every aspect of this place is a scene straight out of an old Western film. Be warned — ‘Copperhead Road’ plays, herds of two-steppers start line dancing away until the cows come home.

Firehouse Saloon

This place is hotter than a stolen tamale! In the wise words of King George Strait, ‘start making your rounds all over town putting out old flames.’ Owned and operated by firefighters, the Firehouse Saloon is one of the oldest honky-tonks in Houston. Get on down there to see some live music shows. No wonder country superstar Miranda Lambert has graced this stage over 17 times. If it’s good enough for Miranda, it’s good enough for you. Come on; add some fuel to that flame and start two-stepping.

Mo’s Place

Whether you’re a karaoke king or country queen, Mo’s Place is where to kick back and relax with a tasty beverage. The Southern hospitality at this honky-tonk is mighty fine, with faces friendlier than a Texas smile. More of a pool playing kind of person? Amen for pool tables galore. Be prepared to set up camp and be entertained for hours. Dancing the night away makes anyone hungry, so food is served too. A whole string of famous country faces passes through Mo’s. Expect to be as happy as an apple burr to bare feet.

San Antonio Rose

Ah, sweet San Antone. It may not be the city, but the San Antonio Rose in Sugarland is a prize heifer. Expect a never-ending string of country classics and a stunning selection of drinks. This honky-tonk feels like a couple of acres in size, and the signature wooden floor is bigger than Dallas. Locals love this place, so don’t be surprised if you see real deal cowboys and cowgirls grazing. And gol-ly, they sure know how to two-step. Hours can be spent ogling at these dancing show ponies.

Wild West

So, you want to go to a real round-up? Wild West is a hoot and a half. Whether you want to sit at the bar and count the number of cowboy hats or get on that dance floor, this place is sure to make you feel like a clam at high tide. Watch the two-steppers do their thing and join in the fun. They don’t bite. Perhaps, at least practice some line dancing before joining in with those country folk, though.

Rebels Honky Tonk

From Texas Thursday Live to Five Dollar Fridays and Smokin’ Saturdays, Rebels is more than just the average country and Western bar. It’s hotter than a burning stump! Embrace rebellion and enjoy some longneck drinking time. This place is always busy and has wild written all over it. Be sure to chat with the friendly bartenders and show that fancy footwork on the dance floor. Start practicing the ‘Cupid Shuffle’ dance too. Aspiring outlaws, be warned – you are in for one wild trek.

Whiskey River

A night two-stepping wouldn’t be complete without a whiskey or two. There are no lazy rivers here. Thankfully, Whiskey River is a party place with drinks flowing like gully-washer toad-strangler Texas-sized rain. After all, the name speaks for itself. Put on those boots and get on over to that big ole dance floor. Get ready for some fancy footwork and overflowing great country tunes. Oh, and show that mechanical bull who’s boss.

Buck Wild

Nightclub, American, Cocktails, Wine, Beer

Gallop on over to Buck Wild and let the rodeo begin. This place is as wild as a tornado in a trailer park. Craving to hear some country covers? Expect lots, and some original music too. This country bar is filled to the brim with young bucks and does do-si-do-ing around the place. Join the herd, wear your checkered shirts with pride, and enjoy everything that this fine watering hole has to offer.

Big Texas Dance Hall & Saloon

Need some brushing up on those two-stepping skills? No problem. Polish those boots, bring out that Stetson hat, and sign up for some Texas country dancing lessons. The immensely talented dance instructors at the Big Texas Saloon & Dance Hall will get you swirling and twirling the night away. Take your pick from two locations and find the day for free lessons. Be prepared for some boot scootin’ boogie times.

Stampede Houston

Take the reigns and ride that horse all the way to Stampede Houston. You will be grinning like a mule eating cockleburs. Whether Fireball, beer, or whiskey suits your fancy, this firecracker of a dancing den has it all. Take a break from twirling, rest those two-stepping feet, and enjoy the Western décor. Stampede has a mechanical bull that’s waiting to buck. Hang on to your hats.
