Notice the original steel machinery used as a design feature, and the cast-iron tank seating in the bar. This intimate property, themed after the Caribbean version of Hotel Havana, lies on a quieter stretch of the River Walk. It was built back in 1914 by a grocer, Edward Franz Melcher, in Mediterranean revival style, with shuttered windows and soaring ceilings as well as a garden full of palm trees. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Hotel Havana offers suites and a huge split-level penthouse. Don’t miss a pan-Latin meal at the hotel’s Ocho restaurant.
