Pigeon Forge is best known for the Parkway, the long strip of road lit by neon lights beckoning visitors to come and enjoy the amusement parks, restaurants, kid-centric theater, fudge shops and other attractions in the area. But it’s also famous for its proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains, providing ample opportunity for vacation fun. A private mountain cabin allows you to experience both sides of the city. Here’s our pick of the best – bookable on Culture Trip.

Picture Perfect, for space for the whole family

In Sevierville, just north of Pigeon Forge, Picture Perfect is a seven-bedroom cabin in the mountains with room for the whole family (and some friends, too). Book this large home, and you can splash in the private pool in summer and curl up by the fire in winter. The decor is log-cabin chic, but you’ll be looking out the windows at the scenery created by Mother Nature, such as the mist-filled Great Smoky Mountains, rather than the art inside.

Bear Hyde, for resort amenities

You’ll find this three-bedroom cabin in the Big Bear Lodge and Resort at the Cross. Staying here gives you the best of both worlds. You have a private getaway to yourself, with stylish pine interiors, magnetic views of the mountain range and a private hot tub from which to soak it all in. But because the cabin is inside a resort, you also have access to all the amenities, including indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center and a game room.

Lazy Cub Lodge, for a cutesy country vibe

With high ceilings in its great room, expansive views of the Great Smoky Mountains and an atmospheric, authentic log-cabin feel, this three-bedroom lodge is an alluring option for a mountain getaway. The Lazy Cub Lodge in Pigeon Forge has cutesy patchwork-bedspread interiors straight out of Little House on the Prairie, as well as an outdoor hot tub on the deck. There’s a sofa bed for extra guests and a pool table for playing billiards when you’ve had your fill of outdoor fun.

Southern Dream, for a theater room

With eight bedrooms and the ability to sleep 26 people, Southern Dream is a large cabin that almost functions as a private bed and breakfast. Cook family meals in the modern kitchen, and then enjoy them together over a shared dining table or al fresco on the large porch, which looks out onto mountain greenery. Choose between an outdoor hot tub or an indoor jacuzzi for soaking your cares away. Fancy a bit of evening fun? Get the whole family competing in a game of billiards.

Splashing Sunrise, for an indoor pool

This attractive property, all knobbly stone and pine facades, sure lives up to its name. The two-bedroom rental cabin in Pigeon Forge looks out over photogenic expanses of greenery – you’ll lose whole mornings admiring the outlook over the surrounding Great Smoky Mountains. If the weather should turn, you’ll be happy curled up indoors – after all, amenities include an indoor pool, video games and a modern kitchen for making meals to eat in front of the stone-stacked fireplace.

Aspens Envy, for expansive views

While you might not guess it when looking out at the mountain views from this four-bedroom cabin, you’re within walking distance of the Parkway, which is busy with shops, amusement parks, restaurants, museums and more. Bedrooms at Aspens Envy have private balconies, and there are sofa beds to accommodate extra family members. Inside the Sherwood Forest Resort, this cabin also has access to shared amenities, including an outdoor pool in the summer, but it’s the interior that wows – pure ski-lodge-lookalike heaven with its timber walls and brick hearths.

Mountain Flower, for a treehouse feel

If you’ve ever wanted to stay in a treehouse without climbing a ladder, consider Mountain Flower, a four-bedroom cabin in Pigeon Forge. High ceilings and lots of windows make you feel like you’re living up in the tree canopy. Balconies, a hot tub and access to a pool and a golf course at Alpine Mountain Village make for outdoor fun. Inside is a fully equipped game room with video games, a billiards table and a foosball table. There’s a sofa bed – just in case you want to accommodate extra guests.

The Great Escape, for a secluded getaway

Not one but two separate jetted jacuzzi tubs (one indoors, one outdoors) will allow your friends and family to soak their cares away after a day playing in Pigeon Forge. The Great Escape is quite an impressive property, with four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, bucolic views of the treetops and a log-cabin aesthetic. Kids getting bored? Steer them in the direction of the game room, where they’ll get to play with items such as video games and a billiards table.
