Sports are a major part of most cultures. While nothing can beat a live game, sometimes it’s just not possible to attend one, especially if your favorite team is international. Watching the game at home can get pretty boring, so gather some friends and head to these 10 local New York City sports bars to drink beer and catch all of the action.

Finnerty's

Bar, Irish, American

Finnerty’s is a popular bar for San Francisco Giants fans, and fans of Bay Area sports teams in general. The decoration is dedicated to all of their local sports teams, including the Niners, Warriors, and the A’s. The area inside is spacious, with 24 televisions playing sports all the time. Finnerty’s is widely considered to be a home away from home for Bay Area folks who have made their way to the Big Apple. They don’t serve food, but they do have 28 draft beers. If a keg party is more your scene, then you can take advantage of their keg service, and choose from over 400 beers.

Mullanes Bar & Grill

Bar, Restaurant, American, Irish

If you couldn’t get tickets to go see the Nets at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, you can always head on over to Mullanes and watch it on one of their nine TVs. Located just two blocks away from the Barclays Center, this bar plays all of the New York team games, including the Mets, Jets, and Knicks. This is also one of the few bars in the city that screens the Champions League.

The only bar at Citi Field, McFadden’s is a great spot to watch the Mets while they’re on the road (or even when they’re at home). This is a down-home bar where Mets fans gather to enjoy games over some hearty food and beer. If you would rather watch the game live, you can opt to go to their pre-game party, which they have before every home game. This is a stadium bar, so they are only open during the baseball season and for major events.

The Garden At Studio Square

Bar, Pub Grub

Studio Square is a massive event space, with over 40 flat screen TVs, it’s kind of hard not to catch one of your favorite teams in action. Come here to watch NBA, UFC, Boxing, NHL, and more. Weather permitting, you can drink in their garden, where they have a 160-foot screen, dubbed ‘The Garden Screen.’ This was a huge spot for the 2014 World Cup, where fans from all over gathered to watch their countries fight for the title of World Champion.

Standings

Bar, American

Standings is huge on college games, but they also show other major professional sports, and are big supporters of the Boston Red Sox. The bar fits around 80 to 85 people, making this a pretty tight space, but it’s fun nonetheless. They offer a nice selection of beers and ciders on tap, which they change every week or so. Every Friday night they offer free pizza at 8pm, and a free bagel bar on Sunday afternoons, September through January.

Baker Street Pub

Pub, Irish, American

When you think of Baker Street, you probably think of Sherlock Holmes. Although the Baker Street Pub is nowhere near England, you can catch all things English here from the food to the sports they show. You can enjoy rugby matches, Premier League, Champions League, and La Liga (not English, but still soccer). If those sports aren’t your scene, they also offer UFC viewing parties. Complete the experience with some of their traditional UK meals including ‘bangers n’ mash,’ Irish beef stew, shepherd’s pie, and of course, fish and chips.

Tonic Bar & Restaurant

If you are a fan of rugby or Ohio State, then Tonic Bar & Restaurant is the place for you. It has dubbed itself the official bar of Ohio State, but they will also show other college teams during the March Madness tournament. Tonic shows a wide range of sports, from tennis to soccer (MLS, Premier, and Champions), UFC, and NBA. The bar isn’t particularly spacious, so for major events this place will be pretty packed. However, that doesn’t take away from the experience of enjoying your favorite team.

Quinn's

Bar, Pub, American, BBQ, Pub Grub

Welcome to the official bar of the Real Madrid supporters club, Peña Madridista NYC. Quinn’s shows every Real Madrid game, as well as Premier League and Champions League tournaments. They do show other sports, including NBA, and NFL. The drinks are relatively cheap, ranging anywhere from $5.50 to $13. If you’re in the mood to eat while you watch your game, you can get traditional pub food, including ‘brats n’ mash,’ and fish and chips. If you’re looking for more American-style food, they do have BBQ ribs and wings.

Gramercy Ale House, New York
