This NYC Hotel Will Send an Intuitive Healer to Your Room

When it comes to hotel wellness amenities, a basic spa just doesn’t cut it anymore. Case in point: The James in New York, which is taking things to another level with on-call healers.

Earlier this year, the hotel announced that it was teaming up with some of the city’s foremost experts to create an in-room wellness program. Dubbed Four Bodies Wellness, it addresses physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health with guided videos and in-person sessions.

Taking care of guests’ physical wellbeing is Michael Olajide Jr., an ex-championship fighter and the founder of Aerospace studio. Olajide Jr.’s boxing-inspired workout blend cardio routines with strength exercises that work in the confined space of a hotel room. Resistance bands (and even IRL sessions) are available on request for those who want to increase their burn.

The mental health aspect of the program comes courtesy of Inscape—a serene meditation studio in Chelsea, Manhattan. As well as receiving priority access to the brick-and-mortar location, guests will receive a complementary month of guided meditations on the Inscape app to use anywhere and anytime they please.

The James enlisted Guru Jagat, a senior kundalini yoga teacher and the founder of RA MA Institute for Applied Yogic Science and Technology, to provide the spiritual component of the program. Her on-demand yoga videos are designed specifically to aid jet lag and reduce stress, contributing to a more restful stay.

So far, so on-trend. The James is hardly the first hotel to offer workout/yoga videos and guided meditations, but its Readers on Room Service might just be one-of-a-kind in New York.

Curated by Ruby Warrington, founder of The Numinous and author of Material Girl, Mystical World: The Now Age Guide to a High-Vibe Life (2007), it gives guests in-person access to a variety of vetted “intuitive counselors,” including hypnotists, reiki healers, sound-bath facilitators, tarot readers, and astrologists.

It’s a niche service, no doubt—and with prices starting at $130 for a 60-minute session it’s not exactly cheap—but an NYC vacation might be the ideal time for the wellness-curious to explore what makes them feel good.
