In recent years, the Hamptons—New York’s premier coastal escape—has undergone a wellness transformation. If you’re spending summer at the far end of Long Island, look out for these events, pop-ups and experiences from some of the city’s top fitness studios and foremost wellness brands.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s goop has taken up residence in an elegant home with hardwood floors and fresh white walls for summer 2018. The pop-up store, which overlooks Sag Harbor Bay, offers a special edit of items inspired by the English seaside in a “livable shopping concept” setting. Think clean beauty products and powdered adaptogens, woven straw and rattan accessories, and home interiors in a neutral beachy palette. After your shopping spree, lounge in the garden and try one of goop’s special cocktails from Ketel One Botanical.

Montauk is the fourth and most recent location of New York Pilates, a reformer-style class with a strong following in the city. This year, the studio’s light and airy aesthetic is expanding to add a retail area with a curated selection of its favorite fashion brands, including summer-ready pieces from Mott50, Lindsey Thornburg and Gamine Sunglasses. Try the ever-popular ‘Abs Arms Ass’ class or plump for a private session to really hone your form.

One of the Hampton’s hippest hotels, Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa boasts a 2,000-foot (610-meter) private beach, 24-hour gym, an ocean-fed salt water pool, and a spa that includes a Roman bath, Finnish rock sauna, and a Russian steam room. Naturopathica spa has been creating even more chill in the Hamptons since 1995. The ethos at this establishment is that beauty comes from a foundation of holistic health, and many of its signature treatments are based on herbalism. Stop by for a massage, facial or an aromatherapy ritual inspired by traditional and cultural remedies from across the globe.

SUP Yoga at JB Yoga

As if yoga’s pretzel-like shapes aren’t challenging enough, SUP Yoga is practiced on a Stand-Up Paddleboard on the open water. With your center of gravity destabilized, muscles have to work overtime to keep you balanced (and dry). “Both the paddling and the yoga provide an amazing physical workout, while allowing the mind to truly slow down and soak in the beauty of summer,” explains teacher Jessica Bellofatto, who creates sequences that are a little more accessible on water. What’s more, the savasana will be the best of your life—floating with hands submerged in the ocean, sunlight painting freckles across your cheeks.

Mineral-rich Himalayan pink salt is said to be anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-microbial. So whether you sit back and fire up a meditation app or take a yoga class, spending time in the ambient Montauk Salt Cave will leave you feeling calmer and possibly healthier, too.

The Class by Taryn Toomey

A far cry from your average workout session, The Class by Taryn Toomey is a full-on cathartic experience. Billed as “a practice of self-discovery through physical conditioning,” it uses calisthenics and plyometrics (all bodyweight, no frills) to explore your relationship with discomfort and push you further than you thought you could go. You will growl, you will shout, you may shed a tear or two, and you will definitely leave feeling stronger in both body and mind.

About the author

Born and raised in Bristol, England, Esme has been geeking out over syntax her entire life. She studied English Lit by the Brighton seaside before moving to London to pursue her writing career in 2009, going on to work for Grazia Daily, The Telegraph and SheerLuxe. In 2013 she swapped The Big Smoke for The Big Apple, where she trained as a yoga teacher and contributed to Refinery29, Self, Fitness Magazine and Greatist. When she's not glued to her laptop or iPhone you'll find her drinking Kale Margaritas at an East Village happy hour, planning her next adventure, or hand-standing (with more vigor than skill) at the yoga studio.
