‘Comings and Goings’ by Kevin Whipple

We rarely stop to reflect on the thousands of continuous transitions from one place to the next that make up our daily lives. In his graphic story ‘Comings and Goings,’ Brooklyn-based illustrator Kevin Whipple explores these small moments, by depicting the private worlds of individuals in an eight-story apartment building. Playing on New York’s distinct architectural identity, Whipple’s story can be read horizontally as four-panel sequences or vertically, each character part of a collective, urban narrative. Filled with sharp detail and poignant intimacy, Whipple’s portraits are heartwarming and comical; they celebrate the beauty of everyday comings and goings.
