Mominette

Restaurant, French, $$
French charm abounds at Bushwick’s Mominette, the local Francophile’s pick for bistro-inspired brunch. Midmorning classics lend a certain je ne sais quoi to Mominette’s romantic backyard, where Brooklynites feast on duck hash confit and eggs, goat cheese and ratatouille omelets, and, of course, French toast made with Bushwick Bakery brioche. Tip: don’t miss the brunch cocktails, such as the French Morning and Bicyclette.

Roberta’s

Bakery, Pizzeria, Restaurant, Italian, $

Roberta’s pizza restaurant in East Williamsburg Brooklyn

Even though there are hundreds, probably thousands of places to eat pizza in NYC, an Instagram photo of Roberta’s pizza pie is unmistakable. The original Brooklyn location is one of the toughest restaurants to get into (expect to wait, maybe for hours), so if you manage to get in and post a photo, you’re sure to induce envy among followers.

Le Garage

Restaurant, French, $$
At garage-turned-French-restaurant, Le Garage, the dishes showcase French flair. Co-owner Catherine Allswang (who partnered with her daughter Rachel for this venture) translates her experience working in some of Paris’ top restaurants into French-influenced dishes, such as the deviled eggs with house-made mayonnaise. Cocktails, such as the Coco Chanel and La Bicyclette Rouge, are must-orders.

Bunna Cafe

Restaurant, Ethiopian, Healthy, $$
Brooklynites who have had enough of the same old brunch basics should explore the menu at Bunna Cafe. The vegan Ethiopian eats at this local favorite include a savory chickpea scramble with peppers and onions; a salad of chunky papaya, mango, and avocado; and a riff on bread pudding featuring toasted flatbread, dates, and agave syrup. Side dishes, such as cashew milk yogurt and Ethiopian home fries strike a delicious balance between familiar and foreign.

Sally Roots

Restaurant, Caribbean, $$
Since opening in 2016, Sally Roots has become an unlikely pillar of Brooklyn’s restaurant scene. The “Caribbean American Barbecue” inspired by “your Grandma’s table” has secured the locals’ seal of approval—literally: Sally recently won Bushwick Daily’s vote for best brunch. After tasting the spot’s cod Benedict, akee and salt fish with eggs, kale and arugula salad with coconut ranch, and Ragamuffin Coffee made with “all the rums,” diners will consider that vote unanimous.

Tortilleria Los Hermanos

Restaurant, Mexican, $
For those who love a savory brunch, there’s Tortilleria Los Hermanos. This tortilla factory and Mexican cantina make spicy pork and chorizo tacos (three for $9) and chicken quesadillas ($5) before diners’ eyes. Although this industrial spot offers little in terms of atmosphere, its BYOB policy makes it Brooklyn’s best—and least expected—bet for a fun and casual brunch.
