Liberty State Park

Liberty State Park, New Jersey City, NJ, USA

Start your self-guided walking tour at the famous Liberty State Park, where you can take in the 1,212 acres worth of green space and panoramic city skyline views. Here you can briefly walk along the waterfront pathway to see the 9-11 memorial until you get to the Liberty Landing Marina and take a quick ferry over to Paulus Hook.

Museum of Russian Art (MORA)

In Paulus Hook, walk a few blocks from the ferry to get to the Museum of Russian Art (MORA). The museum regularly hosts opening and closing events for their artist exhibitions, plus, live performances, readings and informational sessions that are budget-friendly. The suggested donation for non-members to enter the museum is only $10 a pop.

Hudson River Waterfront Walkway

Head back towards the river to the famous Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. On this long waterfront stretch you’ll see fishermen trying their luck off the edge of the piers, the panoramic view of the city skyline and the plenty of locals in this business and residential area.

RoofTop at Exchange Place

Exchange Place is known for its luxury high-rise apartments, top-notch waterfront location and a swanky interior. Its rooftop bar? Well, that’s no exception. Aptly named RoofTop at Exchange Place, this newly-opened bar features all the best this neighborhood has to often, plus, handcrafted cocktails, flavorful eats and that view. While you’re here, don’t pass it by, be sure to stop in for a specialty drink and a picturesque scene.

J. Owen Grundy Park

Just a short walk from RoofTop Bar at Exchange Place is a waterfront pier that juts out into the river with a pavilion and park to enjoy. Stop here to take in the sights and sounds of the two cities. If you’re hungry grab something from one of the local food trucks nearby or shade yourself in the outdoor picnic area.

Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza

After visiting the waterfront, make your way over to the historic downtown area to visit the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza. Stroll up and down this four-block-long plaza past storefronts, bars and restaurants under the glittering string lights. During the warmer months, it draws a bigger crowd of people taking a reprieve outside the bars and restaurants, which makes it all the more fun for people watching.

Lutze Biergarten

There’s no better place to end your walking tour than at Lutze Biergarten, a kid- and dog-friendly spot that has a casual yet lively atmosphere. Here, you can get a good beer, a budget-friendly bite to eat at a food truck nearby, and oh, yeah, panoramic city skyline and riverfront views. Now is the time to sit back, take it all in and relax!
