A variety of international cuisine is available to those visiting Nevada’s state capital, Carson City. From Thai to Basque to Mediterranean delicacies, there are several culinary gems waiting to be discovered. Travel south a bit to the Carson Valley region and guests will find other delicious food, including French and Creole-inspired fare. Here is a list of some of the tastiest spots in and around Carson City, Nevada.

I’d Eat There

Starting out as a food truck, I’d Eat There is now located in the charming Carson Valley town of Minden. This casual spot specializes in flavorful Creole-inspired fare. A vibrant interior complete with colorful walls adorned with silhouettes of Jazz musicians awaits guests. Notable dishes include breakfast favorite calas, which are deep-fried rice fritters made with bacon, cheddar, and jalapeño served with Creole potatoes and choice of meat.

J.T. Basque Bar & Dining Room

J.T. Basque Bar and Dining Room is a family-friendly establishment featuring Basque comfort food. This dining spot serves family-style multi-course meals; in addition to the bread, soup, salad, stew, beans and French fries, diners also have a choice of entrees including top sirloin steak, lamb chops and Basque chicken. The meal also comes with a bottle of red wine, coffee and ice cream. Be sure to visit the bar beforehand for a Picon Punch.

L.A. Bakery

L.A. Bakery is a delightful bakery and cafe specializing in sweet and savory snacks, including vegan and gluten-free options. Highlights include scones, muffins, croissants, cakes and baklava. For something savory, try the Greek omelet with onion, feta, spinach, Kalamata olives and mozzarella, or the turkey melt with pesto aioli, cheddar and tomato.

Minden Meat & Deli

Minden Meat and Deli is a tasty spot where guests can pick up fresh meat and seafood to cook at home or enjoy a juicy burger or sandwich. Featuring Black Angus beef from Creekstone Farms, the culinary teams grinds the beef in-house. Popular dishes include the BBQ guy burger topped with bacon, cheddar, avocado, lettuce, grilled onion, house BBQ sauce and chipotle mayo; and the meatloaf panini with cheddar, grilled onions and ketchup on sourdough. The deli also features over 350 beers, including 10 on tap, and 250 bottles of wine.

San Marcos Grill

San Marcos Grill is a family-friendly venue serving flavorful Mexican cuisine. Start with the tableside guacamole, followed by the blackened fish tacos served with a cabbage-cilantro mix, avocado, roasted red pepper sauce, and crema Mexicana or steak and cactus sauteed with a tomatillo sauce accompanied by rice and black beans.

The Basil

The Basil is a warm and inviting venue specializing in Thai cuisine with a creative twist. Highly recommended is the deep-fried blue soft shell crab with thick pasty shushie curry and asparagus. If mangoes are in-season, the mango tango dessert—coconut sticky rice, mango, and coconut milk—is a must-try.

Villa Basque Deli

Villa Basque Deli serves famous chorizo which is made from a family recipe handed down from generation to generation. For breakfast, the Basque chorizo with scrambled eggs served with rice and beans is highly recommended. For lunch, try the paella with chorizo, chicken, shrimp, clams and calamari.

Z Bistro

Z Bistro serves New American cuisine with global influences. Expect dishes such as a brown rice bowl with baby bok choy, grilled Asian marinated pork loin, pineapple chutney and spicy aioli. The cozy environment is reminiscent of a French bistro and it’s perfect venue for a celebration.
