A suburb of Kansas City, Liberty is a quaint place with a historic downtown area. Stroll the avenues lined with architectural gems, and explore one of Liberty’s many boutiques and artisan workshops. Of course, Liberty is also home to several outstanding restaurants and and cafes. Here are our favorites.

1. Rock and Run Brewery

Gastropub, Pub, Wine Seller, Wine Bar, American, Fast Food, Wine, Beer, Cocktails

Rock and Run Brewery serves new American cuisine with an emphasis on craft beer. The industrial interior features all the fixings of a typical sports bar but with more elevated style. The restaurant also has large roll-up doors, which give you the feeling of being outdoors whilst still being protected from the elements. Enjoy one of their house beer-tasting flights alongside a yummy burger, pulled pork sandwich, salad, or wood-fired pizza. All food is farm-to-table, so you can rest assured it is sustainably sourced. Rock and Run Brewery is spacious enough to accommodate large groups on game day as well.

2. Luigi’s Italian Restaurant

Bar, Restaurant, Wine Bar, Italian, Vegetarian, Vegan

As you may have guessed by the name, Luigi’s Italian Restaurant serves classic Italian fare. The Mediterranean style interior includes a wine bar and artwork by iconic Italian painters. As for the food, you can choose from a selection of tasty pastas, succulent meats, decadent lasagna, puffed Stromboli, and seared fish specials. Plus, each meal comes with fresh Italian bread and olive oil. Come for lunch to enjoy one of Luigi’s lunch specials that also include a salad. Of course, you ought to finish off your meal with their perfect tiramisu no matter which time of day you come here. Luigi’s also delivers pizzas.

3. La Tienda Chiquita

La Tienda Chiquita

La Tienda Chiquita blends two different culinary persuasions, Mexican and gluten-free. From mango salsa and steak tacos to avocado tostadas, fajitas, enchiladas, burritos, and even Barbacoa, there’s something to please anyone looking to taste authentic Mexican food. For dessert, save room for the gooey, delicious pumpkin cake that’s prepared like a tamale – banana leaf and all! Be warned, however, portions are quite large here. The interior is simple, and the atmosphere will make you feel like you’re in a family kitchen.

4. The Fish Market

Market, American, Seafood

The Fish Market is Liberty’s go-to stop for Cajun and Creole dishes. We’d also suggest adding an ice-cold beer to the mix. The Fish Market’s exterior even looks like a bait and tackle shop! Naturally, most of their menu items feature fish and seafood like shrimp po’ boys, fried catfish, and conch fritters. Pairing your meal with some fried okra and hush puppies is a must if you’re looking for a true bayou experience. If you’d like to try something new, we recommend the fried pickle chips. They strike the perfect balance of crisp and tart, much like a salt-and-vinegar chip.

5. Korma Sutra

Restaurant, Indian

Korma Sutra is our top pick for Indian cuisine in Liberty. They put on an excellent lunch buffet and offer all kinds of traditional dishes like saag, butter chicken, and tikka masala. Korma Sutra even serves complimentary chutneys and roti! If you want to get extra fancy, you can upgrade from regular to garlic naan with fresh herbs. Pair your meal with a mango lassi or end it with some sweet rice pudding. The staff is very friendly, and on slower nights, they will let you sample different lassis, teas, and desserts. It is clear they take pride in their restaurant, and rightfully so.

6. Ginger Sue’s

Diner, Restaurant, American, Vegetarian, Vegan

When you’re in the nation’s heartland, there’s nothing like the sound of American breakfast to feed your appetite. Ginger Sue’s serves a multitude of breakfast favorites with some original twists thrown in as well. For example, you can get your pancakes with chocolate chips or blueberries, but they also do peanut butter banana or apple cinnamon griddlecakes. Ginger Sue’s offers lots of savory delights as well, like the grilled chicken scramble or the Farmers’ Omelet with lots of fresh, chopped veggies. The interior is much like that of a traditional diner with rustic wooden touches. This is an excellent spot to stop for a glimpse of the pleasantries of small town America.

7. The Big Biscuit

The Big Biscuit

This local franchise offers you another way to start your day. The Big Biscuit does a great variety of griddle breakfasts including their famed cinnamon roll pancake. Other popular menu items include breakfast burritos, biscuits and gravy, eggs Benedict, and eggs cooked in any way served with hash browns. As the name dictates, most entrées are also served with a big biscuit. You can expect prompt and attentive service even on busy Sunday mornings. The Big Biscuit also serves lunch. No matter what you order or which time of day you decide to stop by, you’ll find high-quality food for a great price.

This place offers you the quaint charm of a small town cafe while providing delicious meals and snacks. Some menu items include quinoa burritos, lolly sandwiches, whole-wheat pumpkin pancakes, smoothies, and the freshest of salads and veggies. Plus, their fair-trade coffees come with unlimited free refills! The interior is cheerful and sunny with quaint charm. You can even dine al fresco on their private patio. On select occasions, Morning Day Café also opens up for cocktail hour.

9. Conrad’s Restaurant and Alehouse

Restaurant, American, Steakhouse, Seafood, Snacks

Conrad’s Restaurant and Alehouse offers new American fare in a casual setting. If you’d simply like some snacks to munch on while enjoying a beer, go with the sweet potato waffle fries, fried pickle slices, or onion rings. During happy hour, appetizers are only $5 alongside some phenomenal cocktails including sangria and mojitos. For a more substantial meal, the chicken fried steak special is usually a big hit. The pineapple mango salmon stands as a healthier alternative. The contemporary interior at Conrad’s is dressed in warm wooden tones. It makes for a spacious and comfortable venue to enjoy time catching up with family and friends.

10. Longboard’s

Longboard’s serves Hawaiian cuisine and other dishes from the South Pacific in a casual setting. One of their most notorious menu items is the Hawaiian slider, which consists of a medley of imitation crabmeat and pulled pork on special Hawaiian bread. They also do a variety of inventive wraps like the Cabo chicken wrap and the sushi wrap. Much of the menu offerings also involve tasty grilled or smoked meats, but they also make tasty Thai noodles and even ramen. While Longboard’s certainly dabbles in an expansive variety of cultural cuisines, one thing is for sure: you will find something here to please any palate.
