Grand Rapids has all the luxuries of a metropolis with plenty of small-town Michigan charm. Not only is the town now an up and coming hub for artists and creative types the Midwest over, but it’s also got some top notch restaurants and bars to enjoy. Here’s a look at some of the finest places to start the day when in town.

Six.One.Six Restaurant

Inside the JW Marriott Hotel, this stylish spot is a cafe, bistro, lounge and bar all wrapped into one. Every morning, the Six.One.Six serves a freshly prepared breakfast buffet in addition to its celebrated omelette bar. Expect delicious yogurt parfaits and a great selection of fresh fruits for the more health conscious diners, and that’s all before the view from the Six.One.Six patio – straight out over the roaring rapids.
Address: Six.One.Six, 235 Louis Campau North West, Grand Rapids, MI, +1 (616) 242 1448

Sundance Grill

Restaurant, American

The Sundance Grill has been a staple in Grand Rapids for nearly 20 years and it’s pretty clear why. Sundance’s obvious southwest influence can be seen in both the decor and the menu. They have some great original options like the huevos rancheros, Acapulco scramble, and the bacamole (yep, that’s bacon and guacamole) omelette. Sundance can do some amazing things with an egg, making it a sure choice for breakfast when in town.

Bagel Beanery

Bagel Beanery

When looking for a quick bite to eat instead of a more drawn out affair, Bagel Beanery has the perfect thing; the place has some great coffee and pretty unbelievable bagels. They bake the bagels fresh every day and have an assortment of options, going from the classics like sesame and blueberry to more signature bagels like the salsa pepperjack, cinnamon crunch, and the cheddar herb. Be sure to drop in and enjoy a bun from this, arguably Grand Rapids’ best bagel spot.
Address: Bagel Beanery, 455 Michigan St NE, Grand Rapids, MI, +1 (616) 235 7515

Omelette Shoppe

Bakery, Restaurant, Fast Food

The Omelette Shoppe is another classic brunch place in Grand Rapids. This folksy restaurant is packed with charm that makes every customer (new or old) feel like part of the family. They have a bakery attached so everyone who enters is flooded with the delicious aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls, muffins, pecan rolls and more. As the name suggests, omelettes are their speciality, with great choices like California veggie, Maryland (with crab and mushrooms) and sausage gravy on the menu.

Grand Rapids Brewing Company

While the morning hours may mean a classic Michigan brewery isn’t quite the top thing on the menu, the Grand Rapids Brewing Company boasts a menu that makes brunches here almost as attractive as the bespoke brews and hops creations from behind the bar. Head in for some stacked burgers, all-American grilled meats and some truly fine Mexican-inspired entrees – the perfect fodder for a lazy lunchtime start.
Address: Grand Rapids Brewing Company, 1 Ionia Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI, +1 616-458-7000

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
