One of the capital’s most exclusive, restaurant-laden neighborhoods, Potomac Heights boasts a range of international cuisine that is seldom found in one place. Here are a few of our favorites.

Sushi Keiko

Restaurant, Japanese, Sushi, Asian

This upscale sushi bar along Wisconsin Avenue serves an extensive range of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, and a line of classic Japanese hot dishes with chicken, edamame, and seafood. Conveniently located along one of the neighborhoods’ most prestigious thoroughfares, and within steps of the red-line metro and bus terminals, Sushi Keiko has been reviewed many times in local publications for their exquisite presentation, attentive service, and fresh, local ingredients. Ideal for quiet dinners in a refined, friendly environment.

1789 Restaurant

Bar, Restaurant, American, Vegetarian, Vegan

A chic bar and restaurant on 36th Street, 1789 has a reputation for seasonal, high-class American dining. A proud advocate of the Slow Food Movement, 1789 prepares its dishes from ingredients wholly purchased from local farms, and includes a list purveyors on its website. Its rich selection of main courses, notably lamb and seafood, include such original creations as the Wild Alaska King Salmon (poached citrus olive oil, with panko breadcrumbs, sorrel emulsion, heirloom carrots, fennel fondue and charred spring onion), alongside more standard options like the Hanger Steak (with summer corn, tomatillo puree, huitlacoche, garlic scape, and chanterelle mushrooms).

Et Voila

Restaurant, French, Belgian

Classy and modern, Et Voila is one of the best resorts in the area for traditional French/Belgian cuisine, and its menu has easily some of the most creative, beautifully presented dishes. Specializing in beef, duck, and seafood and featuring a large, well-disposed dining-room with a cozy outside terrace for fair weather, Et Voila is also the purveyor of one of the greatest selection of Belgian beers in the city.

Old Europe

Restaurant, German

One of the few purveyors of authentic German cuisine in the area, Old Europe gives a measure of old-world nuance sorely lacking among the contemporary dining-houses of Wisconsin Avenue. Fancifully decorated with rustic oil-paintings and various German steins and porcelain, Old Europe serves a range of seafood and vegetarian options in addition to its specialty line of sausage courses (like the “Wurstteller” platter – an assortment of handmade Bratwurst, Bauernwurst, Knackwurst, and Debreziner Wurst served with a generous selection of dips and toppings), and features an uptstairs banqueting room and buffet table.

Rasika

Restaurant, Indian

This sophisticated Indian restaurant is easily among the largest and most sumptuously-appointed of its kind in the city, and its bar-room and lounge have made it a popular night-life destination. Serving an impressive catalogue of a la carte options, Rasika also features a four course Tasting Menu with wine pairing, and a corresponding six course option.

Blacksalt

Bar, Market, Restaurant, Seafood, Sushi

A chic, minimalist interior, with Pompeian wall-murals, modern furnishings and a massive state-of-the-art sushi-bar, Blacksalt Restaurant serves every variety of global seafood imaginable, and its fresh, ethically sourced ingredients may all be purchased from the Black Salt Fish Market, fronting its entrance. There are two prix fixe Tasting Menus of five and seven courses, an internationally-inspired dinner menu (from the Jumbo Prawn & Pepper Stew, with blue shell mussels, basil, wild Mushrooms, rice Noodles, & red curry-coconut broth, to the local Maryland crab cake), and an outstanding selection of international wines.
