Originally founded by a successful former student in the early 20th-century, this 150-room hotel is owned by the world-famous Notre Dame University and is a fantastic way to feel part of campus life – while contributing to its upkeep. Guests can even make use of the campus sporting equipment including a bouldering wall, as well as the hotel’s own fitness center. The two restaurants – Rohr’s and the Wind Family Fireside Terrace – are well-reviewed and the former’s signature cocktail, the cherry-infused Hesburgh Manhattan, is a must-try.

This guesthouse looks like something out of a classic movie ‒ with the ambiance to match. Built in 1897, this Queen Anne-style building – complete with turret, gables, porches, and balustrades – has been rated “outstanding” by the Historic Preservation Commission. Thankfully, there are mod-cons within – including an in-room TV, air-con, and hot tubs. Home-made breakfast is served in front of the fire each morning and you can up the romance factor with one of the Oliver packages that add on roses, bubbles, and dinner.

Start the day with a cuppa from your in-room Keurig machine and a bespoke homemade breakfast – with eggs just as you like them – before working out in one of two fitness centers.
