What could be more American than a nice juicy burger? When you’re in Hawaii’s beautiful capital and have a craving for the classic meal, it can be difficult to find quality options. The Culture Trip has compiled a list of the very best burgers you can find in in Honolulu, all made with unique and quality ingredients.

Burgers and Things

Burgers and Things serves burgers with a lightly charred exterior, flavorful juices, well-seasoned meat, and unique toppings. A classic Darth Vader figurine stands atop a refrigerator with googly eyes, a gigantic comic book poster covers one of the walls, little drawings are posted up near the register, and there is even a modest bookshelf rife with cookbooks and magazines. While pondering what to order, guests are offered samples of various dishes to help them make a decision. A sample of kimchee sausage chili or house-made jam or even cheese from Spain, for example, has, in the past, encouraged customers to choose the burger with that as a topping.

Franky Fresh

Restaurant, Sandwich Shop, American, Vegetarian, Fast Food

Franky Fresh is a fun burger restaurant with an 80s hip hop feel. One of their most popular burgers is The Fresh Prince, made with Paniolo beef, baby portobello mushrooms, bacon, melted swiss cheese, grilled onions, and Franky Fresh sauce. The meat, all made from locally grown beef, has a terrific taste. Patrons love the cool vibe of the place, with boomboxes, cereal stacked on shelves, framed ‘days gone by’ all over the walls, menus on old records, a Super Nintendo gaming system loaded with favorites, old school music, and TVs showing old hits like Run-D.M.C. and NWA. They also offer to-die-for cereal milkshakes, including flavors like Cap’n Crunch, Reese’s Puffs, and Lucky Charms.

Teddy’s Bigger Burgers

Teddy’s Bigger Burgers has a ’50s theme and a simple menu of burgers, fries, and shakes. Teddy’s sets itself apart from other burger joints by using only 100% fresh chilled ground chuck with no fillers or binders. All of the produce and buns that Teddy’s uses are the highest quality and delivered fresh everyday.

Square Barrels

Restaurant, Pub Grub, Vegetarian

Square Barrels is a gourmet burger and craft beer restaurant concept in downtown Honolulu that specializes in serving a refined take on a beloved culinary classic. Nostalgic house specialties made to order straight from the grill include the popular Square Barrels signature Drive-Thru Burger, made with fresh house-ground 80/20 local beer, and the Venison Burger, made with fresh house-ground Molokai venison. Patrons can wash them down with one of the over 20 craft beers on tap, including the latest brewery selections from Hawaii, California, Oregon, and around the world. People also love that the restaurant offers Ulu Fries and they can even choose between having their fries cooked with Pig Fat or vegetarian-friendly rice bran oil.
