Called the City in the Forest, it seems Atlanta has a leafy tree for every one of its 500,000 residents. Each of the neighborhoods offers a heady mix of design, art and dining options, fueled by its growing film industry. Never to be forgotten, the city is the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr, and it continues to play an important role in the Civil Rights movement, welcoming all races, religions and the LGBTQ community.

At first glance, it might appear as though a spaceship has landed smack in the middle of this 1,260 room hotel. In fact, it’s Atlanta’s favorite rotating restaurant and lounge, Polaris. All-glass elevators will whisk you up through the lobby to the top of the hotel for stunning city views. Aliens couldn’t have picked a better spot to observe human nature, close to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and other top attractions in the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr.

Prepare for a heavenly rest at this former Baptist church that’s been converted into a number of large suites. Located in the residential Peoplestown neighborhood, this bed and breakfast offers free parking, a rarity in Atlanta, as well as complimentary snacks and beverages all day in the common area. Rooms are modern and comfortable with pine floors that recall the building’s history. The zoo and the extraordinary Georgia Aquarium are close by, as is downtown Atlanta.

As the name implies, this hotel is great for sports fans looking to catch a game at Georgia Tech. Stock up on snacks for tailgating, a pre-game ritual in the parking lot at the stadium. There’s a Whole Foods right across the street and a mini-fridge in every room. Shoppers can steer clear of the sports crowd and head to the Atlantic Station Mall instead, a few blocks away.
