The Iberian Pig

Opened in 2009, The Iberian Pig is the product of a two best friends, Federico Castellucci and Chad Crete. After the pair met in hospitality college, they worked on a number of projects before settling on a small plot in Decatur. Iberian Pigs – the restaurant’s namesake – are a rare breed of pigs that are found in Spain, and are famed for producing some of the best ham and pork in the world. As such, The Iberian Pig features some of the best charcuterie in Decatur, as well as Spanish tapas dishes. Main dishes include a grilled pork tenderloin of course, that is served with parsnip puree, candied walnuts and cherry balsamic.

Community Q BBQ

Community Q BBQ is a barbecue joint that puts society at the heart of its work. The restaurant pledges to cook fresh food every day, which means they have to guess portion sizes. Any leftovers are then used to cook baked beans and stews and go to feed Decatur’s homeless. Dishes include pulled pork (or chicken), slow barbecued beef brisket, and rib combos. These can be devoured with delicious sides that include mac and cheese, baked beans, and Brunswick stew. They even have family selections for those visiting en masse.

Leon’s Full Service

Leon’s Full Service is inspired by days gone by, when visiting a petrol station would include having your car serviced by friendly attendants. Mark, Dave, Tom, and Ryan opened Leon’s Full Service in 2009 and immediately set about bringing the best possible service to hungry customers from all over the city. Main dishes include peach-glazed lamb ribs, seafood stew, and pan-seared trout. There is also a selection of small plates, such as grilled summer sausages or even steamed mussels. Desserts are sumptuous, with oatmeal cherry cream pie as just one option.

Kimball House

In a city teeming with a fantastic selection of restaurants, Kimball House brings a more impressive level of class and sophistication. That said, Kimball House is not stuffy or pretentious. Guests are seated on a first come, first serve basis, and the place doesn’t take reservations. Kimball House uses food to deliberately reflect the seasons, and produce that best illustrate the places where it originates. Main dishes include glazed belly of pork, ribeye steak with confit mushrooms and bordelaise sauce, and sea bass ceviche. Starters include beef carpaccio and the incredibly indulgent whipped lardo, which comes highly recommended.

No. 246

In central Decatur, No. 246 (that is, Two Four Six) is the product of the equally hard working chefs Ford Fry and Drew Belline. The restaurant serves food that is the product of local produce from the surrounding area, crafted with culinary techniques from Italy. In addition to a selection of pizza and pasta-based dishes, main meals include a half-roasted chicken with toasted garlic and pole beans, and Scottish salmon with quinoa and sunburst squash. Desserts include a blueberry ricotta cheesecake and chocolate ganache with pretzel crumb—the perfect way to round off a meal.

Pinewood

First and foremost, Pinewood is a one-of-a-kind, visionary cocktail bar in Decatur. Of course, there is also an array of fabulously created dishes on offer for diners to try, but visitors come to Pinewood for the booze. Whisky cocktails include Goonies Never Say Die!, a concoction of bourbon, ginger and lime. Meanwhile the vodka selection includes the classic Moscow Mule, made with Pinewood’s own ginger beer and fresh lime. Main meals featured on the menu are dishes like crispy chicken with waffles, pappardelle pasta with Bolognese sauce, and rabbit prepared in two different ways. There is also a great selection of sides.

Café Lily

Opened in 1999 to critical acclaim, Café Lily is now one of Decatur’s oldest and most celebrated restaurants. Café Lily serves a selection of great Mediterranean dishes, inspired by the countries o f Italy, France, Spain and Greece. It reflects the vibrant community that lives nearby. Dishes include Prince Edward Island Mussels, served with a white wine and cream sauce, as well as hot mezze platters that are perfect for sharing. Café Lily also has a fantastic selection of alcoholic drinks for guests to enjoy with their meals.

Zyka

A revolutionary Indian restaurant, Zyka serves fresh interpretations of classic Indian dishes. Zyka provides an intimate atmosphere that allows guests to enjoy the very best in relaxed dining, every day of the week. Dishes include starters, such as the popular samosas as well as chicken boti kebabas, served with a cooling yogurt dip. Main meals include several types of original curries like the spiced potato potatoes, or the aromatic mutton masala.

Twain’s Brewpub and Billiards

Twain’s Brewpub and Billiards is perfect for those who can’t sit down when eating a meal, or enjoy a good game of pool, anytime of the day or night. The kitchen serves up dishes with huge portions, designed to reach the pinnacle of comfort food for hungry diners and patrons. Dishes include favorites such as poutine, a mix of fries, gravy and cheese curds, as well as chicken strips, or vegetarian chili. A successful bar, Twain’s also serves carefully crafted ales that are made in its own brewery.
