Bringing your beloved pet on a trip to Dallas? You’re in luck. The Big D may be known for its Cowboys football team and booming business and oil hub, but it’s also home to one of the USA’s largest city park systems. Check into one of the city’s top pet-friendly hotels, which offer handy amenities for your furry friend and nearby dog-walking routes.

The Beeman Hotel

A special Pupjoy amenity box, packed with treats, a toy and travel bowl for your dog or cat, awaits at this central Dallas hotel. Newly renovated rooms on the ground floor are designated pet-friendly and suitable for up to two animals weighing under 50lb (23kg), for no extra charge. As well as its relaxed pet policy, the Beeman is loved for its restaurant-bar, Seely’s Mill, where you’ll find regular live music and Texas tequila, street tacos and brisket.

Each one of Hotel Zaza’s zany, pet-friendly suites has a theme – from the Out of Africa den to a tranquil Zen space, and the Texas room – decorated with cowhide horns and leather. You’ll receive retro candy and candles during turndown service, as well as access to the day spa and poolside DJ venue. ZaZa welcomes dogs of any size for a $150 fee and they can be left behind while you explore Dallas, plus there are plenty of off-leash parks nearby.

Presidents, celebs and even Queen Elizabeth have stayed at this historic Beaux Arts hotel in Downtown. The castle-like spot, built over a century ago, is named after its German creator Adolphus Busch and was once the tallest building in Texas, at a then-whopping 22 stories high. Today, a modern spa and rooftop pool complement grand ballrooms and ornate suites. One dog weighing up to 35lb (16kg) is permitted at the Adolphus; head one block east to Belo Garden for dog walks.

Crescent Court, in a swanky uptown neighborhood, is one of the fanciest hotels in Dallas. Think 10 different types of imported European marble, a 2,000-year-old Greek god statue and limestone columns in the up-market Beau Nash restaurant. Despite the hotel’s grandeur, it has a generous pet policy, with two animals allowed for a $150 fee per pet. They can even be left in the room, if crated, while you enjoy the hotel’s spa and pool.

Magnolia Hotel Dallas Downtown

You can’t miss the 11ft (3.3m), neon-red Pegasus that sits atop this Downtown hotel. Known as the Flying Red Horse, the original sign was erected back in 1934 when the building housed the Magnolia Petroleum Company. There’s a vintage feel to the hotel, with high ceilings, an elegant bar and apartment-like suites that are perfect for pet stays. You’ll receive treats and dog-walking suggestions when you check in, with two pets of any size permitted for free.

Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek

Pets are welcomed at Rosewood Mansion with treats, beds and a guide to pet-friendly Dallas attractions. There’s a $150 cleaning fee and dogs can’t be left unattended, so take advantage of nearby Turtle Creek walking trails and the hotel’s dog sitting services. This palatial estate, dating back to the 1920s, lies in Mediterranean pool gardens and is filled with European antiques collected by its original, well-traveled owners. Rosewood Mansion’s former guest list includes famous names including Tennessee Williams and Theodore Roosevelt.

Hotel Indigo, a National Historic Landmark that was once home to the Dallas Opera House and Titche-Goettinger department store, occupies a prime location in the heart of Downtown. One cat or dog up to 75lb (34kg) is allowed per room for a $75 charge and can be left alone while you’re out exploring. It is just across the street from a dog park, plus there’s a free local-area shuttle service.

You’ll feel right at home in these loft-inspired suites, which feature urban-chic decor, 14ft (4m) ceilings and windows overlooking the Dallas cityscape. Take a dip in the outdoor pool and sip on a handcrafted cocktail at the WXYZ Bar, where local artists often play live music. The hotel, located just steps from city hall and with a grassy area opposite, is ideal if you’re traveling with pets – up to two cats or dogs, weighing no more than 50lb (23kg), can stay free of charge.

Seeking luxury Dallas digs? Fairmont Dallas fits the bill, with chenille throws, marble bathrooms and Downtown views. Two pets can join you for a $25 fee each per day, but must be kept on a leash outside of your room and not be left unattended. Staff will point you in the direction of the park and supply bowls for your companion. One of the hotel’s highlights is its rooftop pool terrace, which is surrounded by soaring skyscrapers.

The Lumen

Visiting the Southern Methodist University in Dallas? The Lumen is conveniently located just across the street, in the Highland Park neighborhood. Once a 1960s motel, the refurbished building is now a luxury boutique hotel with its own rooftop pool, gym and four-star restaurant. Stylish rooms and suites boast floor-to-ceiling windows, some with kitchenettes, and can accommodate pets of any size for a $25 fee per pet, per night.

The Joule, a neogothic Dallas landmark, accepts pets at no extra charge and even allows well-behaved animals to be left alone in your room. This means you’re free to enjoy the subterranean spa or cool off in the rooftop pool. The 1920s hotel also showcases world-class art and offers four penthouses featuring wet bars, private terraces and kitchens.
