The city of Lakewood, one of Colorado’s most populous, has a wide mix of people and cultures. So it’s no surprise to find a multitude of different culinary offerings to try in the city. Here are the 10 best restaurants to try this cuisine.

Simms Steak House

Restaurant, American, Steakhouse, $

Simms Steak House is a restaurant with a view. An award-winning view, in fact, as Simms was previously crowned with the best view in Denver in 2010. The view is not the only award-winning element to this upscale restaurant, with the food also being some of the highest rated victuals around. Simms serves brunch, lunch and dinner, with a cocktail happy hour from 4pm until 7pm. Signature dishes include buffalo quail – a gamey take on the classic chicken wings – and roast beef prime rib. Brunch, an-all-you-can-eat affair, is served on Sunday from 10am to 2pm.

A beautiful showroom restaurant, 240 Union has been serving food to the people of Lakewood since 1989. The menu changes seasonally and the team of chefs offer daily specials that showcase the very best in fresh produce. The menu includes a variety of fish, meat and vegetarian options, including Colorado lamb sirloin with spring pea farrotto, and chicken fried lobster tail with tarragon cream with lemon chive whipped potatoes. The dining area is decorated to the highest possible standard, with large polished tables looking out onto the local surroundings. Dessert options include a sumptuous sticky toffee chocolate pudding, perfect to devour while enjoying the view a little while longer.

Café Jordano

Cafe, Restaurant, Italian, $

Local institute Café Jordano has been running for more than 18 years, started by a husband and wife team and named after their four year-old son. Business was slow when it first opened, but following a rave review from a local food critic, people now queue outside while they eagerly wait for sumptuous Italian food. The menu serves traditional food straight out Italy, focussing on specialities such as gnocchi in a cream sauce, fettuccine with gorgonzola and lasagne with rich beef ragu. Such is their popularity, the reservations policy is particularly strict; they only take bookings for groups of six or more and everyone must be seated within 15 minutes of the booking time.

The Chophouse

The Denver Chophouse is a restaurant and brewery steeped in local history. The restaurant sits in the historic Union Pacific building, opposite the Coors Field. The Chophouse is celebrated for its relaxed atmosphere in the face of celebrity credentials – the restaurant holds parties for both the Avalanche Cup and the Broncos’ Super Bowl celebrations. Both beer and hand-crafted bourbons are brewed on site. Dishes include classic prime ribs, roasted and prepared to signature recipes; the ‘Oscar’ includes steak with béarnaise sauce, crab and asparagus, while the ‘Gorgonzola’ uses Worcestershire butter cream, shitake mushrooms and gorgonzola butter.

Little India

Lakewood’s Little India is the result of 20 years hard work on the part of the Baidwan and Malhotra families. Between the two groups, the kitchen and team at Little India have been serving some of the best Indian food in the city. The chefs started their careers in northern India and brought back the best ingredients and cooking techniques that the sub-continent has to offer. Signature dishes are cooked and prepared using a traditional tandoor clay oven. Chicken ginger kabob – pieces of chicken breast are marinated in ginger mint sauce and served in a sizzling pan on a bed of diced onions – is but one of the many dishes on offer.

Kobe An

Kobe An is a highly rated Japanese restaurant in Lakewood. This venue from the Far East has been serving great food since 1979. The sushi and nigiri rolls make use of the very best in prime sushi-grade fish across the whole menu. The adventurous can even pick from a selection of fish-roes, including salmon and flying-fish, as well as seafood such as octopus and sea-urchin. For those that don’t like the idea of eating raw fish, the dinner menu features beef gyoza, pork with ramen noodles, and yaki-udon – pan-fried udon noodles with vegetables and a choice of meats.

Yard House

Yard House is a restaurant that first opened its doors in California, in 1990. Since then, a group of restaurants celebrating music, art and food have found their way across the USA. The menu contains a wide variety of cuisines and cookery techniques with European, Mexican and American-inspired dishes. The art gallery that is linked to each restaurant aims to capture the very best in the energy that each Yard House venue represents.

Magill’s World of Ice-cream

Magill’s World of Ice-cream is a celebration of frozen dairy; ice creams of all shape, size and flavor fill the freezers in this one of a kind ice-cream parlor. In fact, Magill’s has more than 40 flavors, all of which are made in their Lakewood venue. Guests can buy their ice-creams to go and even request tubs to take home. Flavors include not one, but three varieties of vanilla (regular, bean and French), banana fudge and double dark chocolate. However, if there happens to be something missing, Magill’s are happy to create flavors to order. For the healthy bods, there is also a selection of frozen yogurts.

White Fence Farm

White Fence Farm is more than just a restaurant; it is an experience. The traditionally built white barn has eight separate dining rooms, each decorated in their own way. The restaurant – which includes a whole variety of farmyard attractions – prepares all American comfort food to the very highest standard. Fried chicken, broiled shrimps and a plethora of different steaks are available for guests to choose from. Desserts are equally tempting, with fruit pies and cobblers being the dishes of the day. Servers, decked in classic uniforms, also help to add to the overall nostalgia of old-school dining experience.
